Ambient Lighting

So, I like having ambient lighting in my cars. That being said, I also have a Mercedes S63 that I think has better options for ambient lighting.

The Mercedes can have motion lighting where the ambient lights change colors, e.g., the Red Moon option. It's not in your face but nice to notice the subtle lighting color change.

My new 760ix does not offer this, and I'm curious as to why BMW did not include this feature. There is one mode where it changes a little, but that's it.

I also had W223 S-class and ambient lightning was very nice with slow color animations. Today I sold it

Missing that effect in my BMW.
They have a tech to do this (look at sport mode mixing 2 colors) but they decided not to. Why? I dont know.

I always have the expressive mode colours when not driving in sports mode. It's the perfect combination for me Wouldn't want anything else. The single colours are of no use to me.

I don't have and never had a Mercedes but admit it'd be nice to have some active type of cockpit animation in my i7.

Of course the dashboard lighting IS attractive and I like it well enough, but I specifically feel short-changed with the "Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof," a $995 option on my eDrive50 (it comes with the sunroof, but sans lighting). With such a lofty title I thought its inclusion would provide some lofty and interesting dynamic effects*, but they just sit there doing nothing (not that I can appreciate them above and behind me much while driving anyway)! That was a bit of a waste of $1K!

*In fairness, the description on the BMW website never mentioned "moving" or "changing" lights, etc., and I incorrectly assumed the feature was descriptive enough of this.

I use expressive mode as default since it's the only one with active moving ambient lighting

true, the ambient possibilities are very poor. BMW dictates what is good for you, like apple...

i hope someone hacks this and makes a module for it!

on the other hand: what i miss is a "dark mode" where everything goes dark and the instument panel black and white. in difficult conditions at night i don't like some ambient distraction lighting

You can turn off the ambient lighting quickly by hitting the overhead interior light menu button near the sunroof switch and just deactivating it on the screen. You can also quickly turn off the main screen by pulling down from the top and pressing screen off.

That combo makes it very dark if you're using the main simple dash display with just speed.

i added a shortcut for that so i have both functions on the screen. what i meant was a dedicated button with an optimized dash display and such
