World First Test: BMW 750i likes to boogie
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...otopanel..1.*#4 What Works: Effortless twin-turbo V8 acceleration; 4.9 to 60mph; small-car handling; cosseting interior; likable iDrive. What Needs Work: Fussy throttle tip-in; some other nitpicks of not much consequence. Bottom Line: Previously controversial and often vilified, the BMW flagship is once again one of the finest, most likable automobiles in the world Quote:

not feeling the front end styling and the rectangular exhaust tips (lexus ls).
hard to argue with the performance though... and i would love to have a version of the DDC for our 3s. |

Wow that's impressive that it is as fast as the S63 but obviously handles way better. I love this car. I usually would never want such a big boat but the new 7 adds in just the right amount of sportiness too.

Very Happy with this car. I am only 21 and it really serves me no purpose at this time in my life. But for the business man or family man etc the interior is gorgeous and the performance on par and better then an S63. What more can a 7 series driver ask for? Did I mention those gigantic tvs available in the backseat! Great Job BMW

In person it looks machissimo.
And if I were in my fifties (I'm not even in my forties yet) I'd choose this one and not the also excellent S Class. |

the S63 has more power as far as I know . its a monster this is just a regular 750i with V8 twinturbo and if that does it better than the S63 then so be it...great job BMW....

Yeah, not as much of a market, they would have jumped in head first if there was much of a reasonable market, this motor been around now since the x6 was introduced. In that vehicle class and price point, you are talking totally different demographic. A very very small minority of owners of these vehicles would dabble in risky warranty-voiding mods. Most could care less if the car was tuned or not. They are older, and tend to be more conservative. Likely to frown at those shenanigans than drool at your new found power. These things are already fast enough.

I saw one on the road today and it's a REAL head turner. I absolutely hated the enormous grill, but it actually looks very nice in real life. Not surprisingly, that's how most new BMW's are - for me at least.

When I first heard people complain about 'how big' the front grill was, I was concerned it would look bad on the car. After seeing the car in person and ESPECIALLY after test driving it, I can say that it is still well proportioned. I guess people NEED to find SOMETHING to criticize The 750 is incredibly fast. I was driving on a curved on-ramp to enter a highway (wasn't even on the highway yet or freeway if you like) and was already going 130km/h (80mph)!! WOW. The interesting part about it is that the other two guys I had in the car with me didn't believe me when I mentioned this until they looked at the speedometer. I had driven the exact same route about an hour earlier in an MB S550 4Matic AMG version and the 750 was definitely faster, smoother and quieter. I enjoyed the ride a lot more in the 750 than the S550, hence my final purchase decision. I should also note that I drove an Audi S8 earlier that day and all I can say is that I would rate the Audi in 3rd place FAR behind the 750 and S550...

I forgot to mention that what's interesting about the size of the grill is that it makes the car look a lot more aggressive... especially if you come up behind someone real fast (which is no problem with the kind of power on tap in this car)

Totally agree, I've driven many S63's- and I've driven many new 7's and the S63 is a monster. MB's claim of 0-60 in 4.5 Sec's is spot on, as is Munich's 4.9 sec for the 750...... I think the new B7 will be a much more likely competitor to the S63 than the stock F01 7er...
