Swedes in Indycar

I would be interesting to have an "American" view of my Swedish fellowmens chances in Indycar Racing?
Will Marcus & Felix have what it takes to make it to the podium?

My thoughts -
As in F1, it's all about the package....if they are part of a top-tier competitive team, they stand a chance.

Don't know if you saw this, Ericsson was testing at Laguna Seca last Friday. His comments on his new ride sounds like it'll take him some time to get accustomed...

"For me, the biggest issue is consistency. The IndyCar is tricky to drive, difficult compared with a Formula 1 car which is so planted to the ground. This car moves around a lot.
“So my biggest challenge now is to understand that and deal with that. At the moment I’m hooking up different corners well from lap to lap, but I struggle to get my best from all the corners in the same lap.
“I might get two or three corners just right and then do worse on the next two or three. Then the next lap, I’ll improve the ones I struggled with, but lose time on the ones where I was good.
“So I’m working with the team to improve that consistency to help me get up to speed better.”

He was about .5 second off his teammate James Hinchcliffe's best lap.

I miss the days of when Kenny Brack was racing. Was at Mid Ohio when I ran into Kenny and Max Papis chatting with each other in the pit area where the team trailers were parked. Nice guys.

Yes they do. Some races are anyone’s for the taking, particularly if you figure in how the yellows fall. I watch both series, but in Indycar at least a non top tier team can actually win a race sometimes.

This has been my biggest gripe with F1 for some time now. The cars definitely have become too easy to drive. In the late 90s and early 2000s, you saw cars sliding around a lot more than today. That meant that the quick drivers always had a big advantage over the average ones.

Both drivers showed well in FP1 for this weekend's St. Petersburg IndyCar.

Felix was hugely impressive today, led many laps on skill not on strategy. Robin said he "lost on pit stops" but that wasn't accurate: he lost on his in-laps and I'm betting he's already got that figured out. Felix didn't win today, but he surely will this year. This will be a great IndyCar season.
