I like the big grille. Looks mean. Looks especially good as an Alpina B7 IMO.

are you serious the f15 x5 looks so nice. I shudder when i see the front end of the g05 and shiver when i see the back end. only the side profile looks ok.

The blacked out grille helps, but it's still a horrible look. The fact that the top section is completely fake just to make it larger should never be done on a luxury vehicle. Often on cheap vehicles, fake vents/ports via a sticker are totally normal, this is unfortunately a similar reach to fool somebody. BMW just announced this morning that first-quarter operating profit fell a whopping 78%! Timing that with questionable design choices like this, which even some of the most loyal beamer fans can't stomach, could end up being a really bad combination.

Because of a $1.4 billion provision nothing to do with sales.....

Along with the provision however:

Adding to the downbeat tone, the company reiterated that it expects group profit before tax to be well below the previous year’s level. It also sees weaker car sales in the first half of 2019 as factories are retooled to produce a new 1-series and 3-series.

There are tons of fake grilles and vents on sports cars, luxury cars, economy cars, and even SUVs. It has nothing to do with the price of the car, they're just everywhere now. What about those horrible fake "diffusers" on M Sport cars? They don't even look like diffusers anymore. They just paint a big part of the lower rear bumper black now to look "sportier".

I have a 2017 X5 M Sport and it looks oooold now compared to the G05s I've been seeing driving around lately. The G05 just looks so much more refined and modern. Compared to this new 7 or the X7, the grille isn't even that big. Mark my words, most people will get used to the large grille very quickly. Not everyone will admit that, though.

That grill is comical. It doesn't look as bad when you take a pic of the car with just the front end showing but once you zoom back and you get to see the proportion of the grill with the rest of the car it just looks like a bad Photoshop job. People over at Mercedes are LOL right about now...

Alan
If the grill is so comical, then why has Mercedes used grills that have been larger for years than BMW.
I dont think the size of the grill is the whole problem.

I think it is the proportions and possibly how it creeps up the hood.

perhaps it's just new, and I am becoming resistant to change in my old age. I didnt like the hammerhead grille on the new accord when it first came out. now I like it.

That said, that BMW grille, especially in black, makes me think Hippo nostrils.

Saw a 2020 at my dealer today. The grill is actually quite ugly but not because of its size. It is because of how it sort of rides up on to the hood. The car is nice; got to drive it on a short test. I do not think the grill will stop me from ordering later this year but I would have preferred less on the front.

I very much liked the full electronic dash, btw. The rear is better looking - some consolation.

Here is what I am talking about re the grill. Look through the upper part and you will see the hood line. (This is from another post here) It is fugly. Isn't form supposed to follow function? If so, what were they thinking sort of folding the grill up on to the top of the hood?

This is exactly the biggest problem I have with it. It's big not because of function, but because of an attempt to make people think it's big and bad... when it's not. Which is worth more to you... a diamond, or a larger cubic zirconia? I feel like BMW went with the fake route in order to take it to the next level, but ended up with something ugly... and fake on top of it.

grill may be too big but this is not nearly as egregious a mistake as the bangle butt.

I agree. I left BMW for MB for a few years because of the Bangle Butt. This time, the grill will not stop me from getting an LCI -- but it isn't helping either! It will be either another G12 or an S class in the fall.

I saw my first LCI 7 in the flesh so to speak this week, in grey with Msport black pack cruising through a little Oxfordshire village. Looked really good my colleagues just pointed at it saying wow look at that...it was a positive reaction.

I think people are complaining too much.
