Does the 2020 LCI have different leather?

My 730d has had to go in for some warranty work and have been provided with a 745e as a loaner - the interior is a carbon copy of mine (Ivory with Piano Black Individual), but it feels different??

The loaner car leather feels more Matt and softer. Is this just because mine is a couple years old, or have they changed the leather since 2017 when mine was produced?

Also - how quick is a 745e, WOW...!!! That initial acceleration is like warp drive!

It could have Merino leather, did you notice extra cover i.e. on the door pockets?

It’s more likely that your Nappa has gone shiny over time and needs a proper clean. Have you had it from new and noticed a difference over time? Mine needs a wipe over every couple of weeks and a deep clean 2-3 times a year to maintain the matte finish and softness.

I don't recall any extra leather coverage over the door pockets but can have a look again in the morning.

No only had mine a few months - a late 2017 bought AUC from BMW. What's involved in a deep leather clean?

I bet it has Nappa leather, just the same as yours.

BMW may well have cleaned them the product they’ve used has left a shine, but either way they will benefit from a decent clean. Dr Leather is a good and easy to use product, available in either in spray or wipes. Agitate either with a microfibre or even better, a soft brush and then wipe with a clean/dry microfibre and you’ll hopefully be really pleased with the result. It leaves a really nice leather smell too.

I use a range of products from LTT leathercare. The set includes leather protector (stops die transfer), if you want to spend a bit more and are OK with it taking longer then it’s an even better option.

Mine is a 2017 and has done 45,000 miles. I’ve looked after it from new with LTT Leathercare and the leather is still really nice (matte/soft), even the steering wheel.

I didn’t think Nappa leather, quilting or massage were now standard in the UK on LCI, so it is possible that it is the new lower standard leather.

Nappa leather is still standard. There are 2 all black options with different quilting styles, so one looks different, but it’s still Nappa.

You don’t get comfort rear seats, massage front seats and a few other things that used to be standard.

The new one may have the Merino leather as someone already mentioned.

But most likely you just need to give yours a good clean.

Why not just run the VIN through one of the VIN decoders and you can see what the interior leather is in both yours and the loaner. All you'll need is the last 7 digits of each car's VIN. Here's 3 of my favorite VIN decoding sites:
  1. https://www.mdecoder.com/
  2. https://bimmercat.com/bmw/en/vin/decoder/online
  3. https://decoder.bvzine.com/

Did you ever run the last 7 digits of each car's VIN through one of the VIN decoding sites given in post #8 (above) to see if they had different interior leather?

No, good shout. Will pop out tomorrow and have a look at both. They didn't take the 745e away when they delivered by 730d back so hopefully get to keep it to to the weekend.

...the leather (aka leder in German) will probably be listed (unless there's a surprise) for the 7 series as either:
  1. Dakota
  2. Nappa
  3. Merino

Some modern BMWs like the F & G chassis X5 uses Vernasca leather (which falls in-between Dakota and Nappa in regards to quality)

Strange one - took a photo of the 745e VIN before I had to hand it back and each time I use it on a vin decoder it shows up as an E46 320d....??

Managed to do mine ok and confirmed as Nappa Leather. Can't find the 745e but can tell you the E46 has a lovely flock cloth interior!!
