Beautiful interior, even the exterior ain’t bad apart from the bizarre front end.

As an architect I generally give BMW the benefit of the doubt with innovative design ideas. However this new face of the 7er is rather bombastic, over cooked, and just too much. It looks like 75% of the front face of the car is blacked out.

Also what is the point on plastering m badges on so many BMW cars? How can a gigantic, extremely heavy i7 merit an m badge? They are just watering down the m brand.

BMW should learn how to properly execute a split headlight design from Hyundai.

I am intrigued.
Very Syd Mead in execution.
I think it's a winner.

Absolutely love the front, not crazy about the rear or black door handles.

Another example of why BMW enthusiasts are walking away from the brand. This new design language will wear off quickly- it's a mess

Completely agree. To me it had a stronger identity when it was only the straight-performance-models Cars. I'm not saying there's a right or wrong, just my opinion. I understand the comment above about 'dilution.'

Agree. It feels like they want to hide the headlights instead of innovating on their design element. Reminds me of the days where carmakers had "pop up" headlights.

You guys are so behind-

Purpose of the large grills and ugly front is to scare the bugs so they don't hit the grill. :-)

According to the designer, that’s exactly what they’re trying to do actually. In one of the interviews I saw he likened the car to a luxury villa, and the top DRL/crystals are akin to a kitchenette or bar where guests drink and mingle, while the lower projectors are like a 2nd kitchen in the back of the house where food is actually prepared. I swear to god I’m not making this up.

I do like the car a lot actually, designer babble aside. Hopefully an M60 makes an appearance in Monterey this week.

If you don't like it, claim it as your own opinion - not of "BMW enthusiasts". Some will like it, some won't.

I don't proclaim to be an enthusiast, but I have had a '93 E34, and still have a '96 E39, '01 E46, '06 E66, and '19 F30. And I love the G70.

I like the car too, as a whole. You can like a car without loving every design element. I am not thrilled with the grille/headlights, but I wasn't thrilled with the LCI enlarged grille either. I test drove an S class for a point of reference. IMHO the S class looks better, but when I was done and got back into my 2020 LCI, I was happy to be back in seats that fit me, with massage that didn't buzz, with intuitive controls, and crisper steering and throttle response. In other words a typical BMW-MB comparison. The 7 may be big but it is still a BMW. MB may have better more classic styling. In fact I think the S is gorgeous. But I vote for driving characteristics over styling.

I don't like that all the black plastic on the front looks like the same piano black plastic that would scratch very easily. I understand that "normal" black paint shows swirls and marks prominently as well, but this just appears cheaper. Obviously, I'm just going by the video and haven't seen it live.

Also, it's weird that the seats look like they have abs.

Okay- well believe it or not- this actually helps me a little digesting the design. I truly feel though the i7 is the winner here- with the x7 morphing to fulfill the purpose. We can't "unsee" 2019-2022 pre LCI. Where as- the i7 had this look from inception.

But I appreciate you letting me know this- I need to seek out the video and watch it…

In many mansions where wealthy people entertain, it’s completely true. There’s a “show kitchen” that is literally just there to look nice. It’s functional, and you could cook an occasional meal there, but most of the time you’ll have a private chef in your less-good looking, but more commercial facility, out of view of the main entertainment spaces.

BMW understands their clientele well in this regard. That’s why the laments about “the BMW faithful walking away” or whatever is complete nonsense. Where is this proven? Who has seen this? Who’s walking away? The people who don’t like the design language are probably the ones who weren’t going to buy it anyway.
