XI owners...What suspension setup can we do?
Hey Xi owners... I had a few questions. I have a 325xi and want to throw on oem zsp springs from a 325i. Can I do this without harming my AwD operation? What have you guys done so far?

Hey coupe...isn't the reason they don't offer zsp springs as part of the sport package because there isn't enough room (transfer case)?

I don't think the "XI" and "I" share too many parts of the front suspension. So the geometry will be different and a the required spring rates and shock damping to get the ride and height right will be different.

I dont understand how zsp would affect the awd but h&r springs wouldn't? They both will drop the car and have less ground clearance... Wouldnt zsp be safer since its oem?

FYI, H&R has an MSRP up for the coilovers, 1580.
Re the no OEM, there's more than just height in a spring-> I wouldn't do the ZSP springs if the factory doesn't. I wouldn't want to be stuck with the repair bill. Note, the H&R 330i and 330xi springs have different part numbers (there's a reason). Consider calling up H&R and ask one of the tech guys about what testing has been done, what issues they have been apprised of, and the like with the XI; there may be some enlightening info. Maybe they can help us better understand what drove the factory away from adding springs to the XI. I'm probably unnecessarily cautious about lowering the car, but, I don't want to be the guinea pig. I'm waiting to see if the L8(something) guy adds the H&R and if there are any problems. |

I would not recommend ZHP OEM springs either. The spring rate is different because the non 4wd car has no extra drive parts in the front end and the subframes are lighter being that hey are not steel. Not to mention the front struts I'm sure are different. Dampening for sure and maybe even dimensions. Get someting that was specifically designed for the XI. I'm wiating for the H&R springs to come available.

Ok, the latest on the H&R sport spring end is that they are still in development. They said I could check back in two months, though.
