Please let us know how that works out -- what they say and if you get it, etc. If you're successful I'll do the same.

BMW probably has one of the worst Customer helplines and feedback channels. One day I hope they’ll prioritize product transparency to their hard working customers. Good Luck!

Amen. I started with consumer relations. They punted to the connected drive team, which sort of made sense. But today connected drive punted to BMW Genius. Three seemingly completely separate groups. One would think that maybe if Connected Drive did not have the answer that they would contact BMW Genius, but no, it doesn't work that way. Telling a customer in effect "its not my job" is not acceptable for a company like BMW.

Today the Genius bumped back to customer care so it is a complete circle of confusion. But somebody named Abigail has taken responsibility.

Here is the answer. I’m not going to pay twice. And I thought I had the latest software.
———\\\/- Thanks for your patience. After further looking into this, your vehicle doesn’t have the correct software for the Welcome Light Animation. There will be a free remote software upgrade that will become available sometime next year (no estimated time frame) which will allow you to add this feature. In the meantime, you can request that this software update be loaded to your car early from the service team at your local BMW center, however, there will likely be a cost associated with this request. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the upcoming remote software upgrade.

I think I can persuade my SA to do a software update but it won’t be until April as I have no service due until then. Fancy blinks if the headlights are not worth a dealer trip.

Hopefully we’ll have an OTA way before then. I’d like to know you’re enjoying your toy.

You might want to check your car, there is a Control Panel Software Upgrade recall. Not sure which cars have it, but mine does. Going in tomorrow.

No Online Connection
So I took my car in for srevice and IDrive 8.5 upgrade just before Christmas. Got the car back and the upgrade looked good. I read this thread over the holidays and decided to spend the $50 for the animation. Got an email from BMW that animation was uploaded to the car. Go out to the car to discover "no online connection". I reset the system multiple times using the volume knob but no luck. Tried remote start thru app but no luck and then realized that the app had not received any usage info from car since my upgrade to 8.5.
Took car to the dealership yesterday and they are working on it. Last message from advisor was "BMW is involved along with our BMW Genius". Gonna message my advisor today to make sure animation is downloaded and functioning before they wrap up this ticket. |

Is the welcome light animation package only available for the I seven? I have the 760 and have I drive 8.5 but the welcome light animation doesn’t show up as an option in the Connected drive tour.

Well, my car is at the dealer, so hopefully they upgrade to the latest version. Otherwise there’s no way to do it as the app is showing that my software has the latest update. Not really sure why BMW constricts it like this with the app showing you have the latest update when you really don’t. Which means you just have to wait for it to get rolled out
