Consumer Reports still telling us to buy Camrys or the X3
With electrics on the rise, perhaps the old timers working at CR should start looking at newer technologies instead of recommending Camrys (though at least someone is recommending the X3 which is cool)

New Camry is actually a pretty good looking car, and has a great rep with consumer reports and JD power.
Not for me, but a popular choice... |

Meh, CR is hardly unbiased, more of a rag than anything, IMHO!

They have good recommendations, as long as 1) You are their normal demographic and 2) You know how they review things and give the ratings they do. I guess you could call this bias, but then aren't we biased as well if we disagree with them? Different priorities for different people.
Most of us probably aren't their normal demographic but as mentioned they did put the 1-Series at the top of the list in its category when still sold, and they highly recommend the new 2 as well. |

if the camry was available with AWD i imagine it would take a great deal of customers away from subaru. i remember back in the day toyota offered "AllTrac" on their second generation camry and it was available with manual only which most customers did not want. even more rare was the camry wagon, manual, awd but either way i think it's a market that toyota is missing out on and considering the amount of camry they sell they could easily bury the extra costs across the entire line of camry as opposed to dumping it all on the one model/option and federalization costs may not be a factor either since the awd system was OK'd on that chassis when they had the Venza here and on the RX. acura is doing it on the TL so it may be something for them to consider but if TMC had a staunch aversion to AWD in their minivan because cost was a factor this idea may just be pie in the sky.

Camrys a wonderful car but the one year depreciation rate is rather high. Surprisingly high.

CR has plenty of faults, but not recommending electric cars in bread and butter segments like the one the Camry is in, isn’t one of them. Electric offerings in that segment and most of the other segments in which they award top picks are either not mature enough or just simply don’t exist yet. |

I'm also in the camp that thinks the new Camry is really nice looking. I was at the dealer getting the kid-hauler serviced and sat in an XSE and I also thought the interior was nice. If they made it in AWD, they would sell like crazy (well... even more so).
