2018 BMW 750ix

Hi Everyone,

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2018 750i x-drive and I'm looking for some honest feedback on what to expect after buying. The car has 35k miles and drove like a dream when I had it for the weekend. As this is a private sale, one of my concerns is the fact that I won't be getting any sort of warranty with the vehicle.
My biggest question is this: what sort of maintenance costs should I expect and are there any major issues that people have run into that I should be aware of?

manufacturer's 4 year warranty should still be active.

Three year free maintenance is not transferable, (nor is a CPO warranty). There may be some remaining time on the warranty -- and 15000 more miles, after which OP is on the hook. Warranty is based on in-service date so you should find out what that was (could have been in 2017 for a 2018 model) so you will know when the warranty expires.

I would also get the seller's service records if you can, and, if you go ahead, plan to get the car in for service before the warranty expires so any issues can be identified. Even better, have a pre purchase inspection done.

Yes, owning a BMW with a V8 engine should be something to consider & research...but if the OP is new to the platform...lumping the 2018 7 series (which is TWO updates away from the 1st iteration N63 engine) could be very misleading. The four iterations after the N63 (N63TU/TU2/TU3 engines) have not had the same track record as the original N63.

The way your post is worded...you could send the OP on a search for the “N63” engine which would not apply to the car he is considering.

Just a thought from one of the “stupid” people that owns not one but two BMWs with the N63TU engine outside of a warranty (2013 f06 650ix GC/2014 f15 X5 50i)...and “knock-on-wood”...has NOT had any of the issues that plagued the original N63 V8 engine.

My only word of advice would be to find a really good independent BMW mechanic. You definitely don't want to be paying dealership service bills.

Make sure that the suspension is fine. I bought the same car with the same mileage last year and one front air suspension was shot. BMW replaced it under the manufacturer warranty.

It’s a German high end sedan. Expect maintenance. And expect pleasure.

The 7 series is a great car when it's in working condition.
Key words: when it's in working condition.

This has always been the case with the 7.

Chances are, you will have issues. Usually After 20-30k miles, the 7 starts showing its problems.
If your ok with that, go for it.

LOL. Sounds eerily familiar, almost like deja vu.

Some people were born to drive Civics because they don’t want the headache of maintaining a driving machine. I am sure there is a simple pleasure for some in just adding gas and changing the oil, even if it’s otherwise an unemotional existence.

Everyone has to figure out where they sit along that continuum.

For the money it costs to buy and maintain, the 7-series is marvelous fun. I’ve had three of them, and mine didn’t have any issues after 20-30k miles.

How many miles did u drive on your 7?

I've had an E38, E66, and now a G12.

Drove them all to about 80k miles.

The cars have had issues with oil leaks, coolant leaks, transmission leak, and various other labor intense problems.

Compared to my S class W221, the 7s had more issues. The S doesn't drive as well but is mechanically a bit more reliable. So you see there are other cars on par with the 7, doesn't have to be a civic to compare to...unless your a small minded fool

Agreed. Last few gen of S have been overall high in reliability. Just a big boat though.
