Anyone know how to delete a lost key?
Wife lost key to my 2021 7 series - any idea how I can delete the key fob from having access to the car without having to go to dealership?

After reading out vehicle data using ISTA, in the left directory, select:
Vehicle Management > Service Function > Body > Locking & Security Functions > Remote Key/Ignition Key > Block/Enable Run "ABL Block & Enable Remote Key" in the right menu Select #3 Function "Block Remote Key" & follow the procedure Note 1: The procedure will tell you what your current key slot number is Note 2: The procedure will allow you to e-enable blocked keys (incase you find your key or accidently disable the wrong key) Note 3: ISTA will not allow you to delete the key in use Reach back out if this doesn't work for you...... [EDIT: There are other units that may allow you to do this process, but may not be as User friendly] Last edited by M_Bimmer; 04-10-2026 at 02:02 PM.. |

The Autel maxicom mx900 may be a great scanning tool to have in your arsenal…but I would highly suggest checking further to see if it has the capabilities to deactivate a key.
Remote deactivation is something that ISTA can do but many other aftermarket scanners usually don’t have the specific capability for remote key activation/deactivation. ISTA is the official BMW platform for deep diagnostics, programming, and accessing technical info.

Google is your friend on this topic. ISTA, INPA, E-sys are all software that you can load to a laptop that can dive into all the control modules on a BMW’s communication bus. And the topic is much discussed across all BMW forums for decades since it is specifically BMW/MINI/RR related.
Some forums even have dedicated forums for diagnostic and coding software. Good luck.

Just call a local BMW dealership's PARTS DEPT (not the service or sales floor)...have the last 7 digits of your VIN ready. They can look it up and give you their pricing.
Have a pin or other writing apparatus ready to write down the 11 digit BMW part nbr...you can then simply google it to see what other vendors and online dealerships are selling them for (ie BMW xx xx x xxx xxx {where x=the actual part nbrs}) Most will require you to present proof of ownership to buy a replacement remote. Or you can go to the www.realoem.com website, enter the last 7 digits of your VIN, and look up the remote diagram to get the correct 11 digit BMW part nbr for our BMW, then do a google search. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=41_3127
