Since it shares platform with Rolls Royce & has hi end leather plus thick carpets, two tone paint, some may look at it as a discounted Rolls Royce 😂😂

The G70 is based on the RR Ghost chassis, so the 7 Series is like an RR for the less affluent.

S7M8 package – INDIVIDUAL INTERIEUR GRAN LUSSO
This package includes full Tartufo leather upholstery + Nightblue trim:
- Alcantara headliner
- Leather upholstery on the dashboard
- Contrasting stitching
- Leather upholstery on the door panels from top to bottom
- Thick carpets

You won't experience this in any version of the 5 Series. It's two or even three levels lower in terms of the interior.

Thanks for sharing those additional details, including the Pininfarina collaboration with BMW.

No one was comparing it to a 5 Series. A 7 Series is still a 7 Series.

The point was whether this ?V8 Edition? truly rises to the level of a special edition for a flagship. Gran Lusso is a nice package, but it isn?t exclusive to this edition. No one is arguing that this is a well-equipped 7 Series.

At the end of the day, it seems the real issue is simply the disagreement over whether this qualifies as a true special edition.

I just cannot move past the front design of this car. I dont see anything else after looking at it.

Even if they had made the front to look exactly like the back, this car would have looked much better.

I like the green and would love to see a G70 in all BRG. Don’t care for the two-tone.

7 series would make sense as EV only but the 740 had a range of almost 500 miles!
Had one as a loaner for a week. Horrific thing, from the canoe-like handling to the tacky plastastic interior. Probably the most disappointing bimmer I’ve ever driven.

This would be a great company car for the V8 juice company.

My i7 eDrive50 has been a very close comparison to the luxury feel & drive of our now gone EQS580 SUV (lease ended).

News to me. Rolls Royce uses its own AOL platform while the G70 still runs on BMW's old CLAR platform.

Obviously all is owned by BMW but there is no transfer of affluence here

That's what the BMW salesperson told me, but when I checked, I found that RR used the chassis from the BMW F01 7 Series in the first-generation Ghost model, which was produced from 2014 to 2020. I also noticed many components in the RR that were taken directly from the BMW 7 Series, such as the rear armrest or idrive.

Even the second-generation RR Ghost has exactly the same rear armrest as the BMW 7 Series F01/F02. There are still many elements in this car that are taken directly from the 7 Series

Understood that. The old Ghost was always a reskinned F-7 series but now all models sport a bespoke RR platform.

Any niche manufacturer relies on components from major ones; Rolls has done this for as long as I can remember but instead of using Ford, etc. they are using BMW. This is a smart use of component sharing.
Difference is of course that BMW owns them and handles all areas of design and development. Same for VAG and Bentley.

With Mat Armstrong we now see there are plenty of VAG components in a Bugatti as well.

But that does’t elevate an Audi A3 because a Bugatti has A3 parts

I think the closest siblings are the i7 and the Spectre as there is a wholesale transfer under the hood but again, it stops at the component level.

Not trying to burst your bubble but the 7 series is a BMW and no RR lite.

But it’s also important to know that both the 7 series and the S-Class are technically superior to any Rolls or Bentley. Even their latest models are technically outdated in comparison.

OK, you're right. When I look at these parts and components in the Ghost, I get the impression that everything is outdated—everything is older, since the iDrive isn't the latest model and the armrest is taken from the F01 etc etc.
