Battery tender
How often do you guys go without driving your 7?
I sometimes go a week or two without driving it, and the time that I do drive it, it's for just a day and a short drive. Is it better if I hook it up to a battery tender? Any thoughts on the bmw ctek battery tender? |

I drove mine for the first time on 7th May since 4th March, so around 8 weeks, and no issues at all. It is covered, so I just uncovered, drove 30 minutes and put back under the cover. I am going to do the same again 1st week of June when I have a few days off (PTO for our American cousins), and might give it a wash and polish before putting back under cover again. I thought the 8 weeks might have given me a low battery warning or something, but not a peep, and it started on the button.

I would guess that the car goes into sleep mode regardless of the lock/unlock status, once the battery goes below certain charge level. Batteries are happiest and last longer when they are maintained in a fully charged state using a smart or trickle charger.

I keep my 18 on trickle charge haven't driven it now in about two months but I start her once a week let her run for a few minutes and back on charge and under car cover she goes but what I've noticed and maybe somethings wrong idk but I can't lock mine with remote while on charge I have to use Bmw app to lock car cause if I use remote to lock while on trickle charge when the charger kicks on it sets the cars alarm off does it with my16 as well but the reason I wonder about it because it doesn't do that to my17 f15 I took them both in about a year ago the say nothing wrong with charging system batts are all good but I find it odd here it is now my16 and 18 G12's both have three batteries my17 F15 has only two batteries

Have you tried locking/unlocking using the door handle instead?

Many here use BMW CTEK charger, while others, myself included, use either other CTEK chargers or smart chargers. Whether you choose to leave the hood up or closed depends on your setup and whether the vehicle is inside a garage (those that utilize permanent adapters/connectors can leave the hood completely closed). Personally, I have the hood gently closed but not latched.
