Battery tender

How often do you guys go without driving your 7?

I sometimes go a week or two without driving it, and the time that I do drive it, it's for just a day and a short drive.

Is it better if I hook it up to a battery tender?

Any thoughts on the bmw ctek battery tender?

CTEK are fine but you don't need the BMW brand. I've let mine go for weeks without a long ride (pandemic) and did not have any problems. As long as you lock your car and let it go to sleep. If you let it sit unlocked for several weeks, then yeah I would (and I do) put on the CTEK overnight.

I only do local driving a few days a week, sometimes less, so I keep my 750 plugged into an external charger at least every other week, knowing that the hot-V is hard on the batteries and that replacing 3 batteries costs an arm and a leg; but that's just me.

I drove mine for the first time on 7th May since 4th March, so around 8 weeks, and no issues at all. It is covered, so I just uncovered, drove 30 minutes and put back under the cover. I am going to do the same again 1st week of June when I have a few days off (PTO for our American cousins), and might give it a wash and polish before putting back under cover again. I thought the 8 weeks might have given me a low battery warning or something, but not a peep, and it started on the button.

I would guess that the car goes into sleep mode regardless of the lock/unlock status, once the battery goes below certain charge level. Batteries are happiest and last longer when they are maintained in a fully charged state using a smart or trickle charger.

Was the hood unlatched when the car was being charged? I could lock the car with opened hood but the mirrors don't fold.
G11/12's have two or three batteries depending on equipment level.

No I don't fully latch hood because I was afraid of wires getting nipped I understand the battery thing and the options was just cross referencing between my three vehicles and why my two 7 series trips the alarm and my X5 doesn't

Side note, I have one that I am not using (I drive the car often enough to not use it) if you are interested in picking one up.

Have you tried locking/unlocking using the door handle instead?

Has anyone used the bmw ctek charger on their G12?

Many here use BMW CTEK charger, while others, myself included, use either other CTEK chargers or smart chargers. Whether you choose to leave the hood up or closed depends on your setup and whether the vehicle is inside a garage (those that utilize permanent adapters/connectors can leave the hood completely closed). Personally, I have the hood gently closed but not latched.
