Adaptive/comfort/sport mode what do you use?

I've had my G11 for 9 months and covered 15,000 miles in that time I'd always used sport mode, over last few days I've started to use adaptive and it's a revelation I had tried it out before briefly but dismissed it as a gimmick.

However after a few days driving on a mix of roads and driving styles it's brilliant and the sweet spot for the car, it seamlessly shuffles from eco/comfort/sport and using the sat nav and how your driving sets up the car for next corner, I found myself being able to fly down a moorland b road with the car soaking everything up then as you turn into the corner the suspension firms up and you find yourself in a car that has far more composure than it ought to. (obviously all within the bounds of what a 2 ton luxury barge can actually do)

I also recently had a G20 loaner for the week and when I got my car back I had a new found respect for it, it really is a beautifully made car, in the beginning I was a little uncertain about it but as the miles have gone on it has staked its claim to the driveway.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your G11 and that lovely 740d xDrive model.

I tend to put it in adaptive myself but only started that about 26,000 miles in!

In my previous F01, comfort mode was the standard mode for me and so I just did the same for the beginning with the G11 but then after reading on here about some others using adaptive or eco pro, etc...thought I should start giving it a chance...I personally don't find the suspension tightening up at all in adaptive but the throttle does become far more responsive of course. I tend to like the adaptive as it is a good fuel compromise as it takes on some elements of eco pro as well so for me the benefits are;

-it saves fuel over sport but is more responsive than comfort
-it doesn't have the annoying habit of coasting for too long and then overcompensating to get back to the adaptive cruise level set that eco pro does
-it isn't too harsh for my 'princess' bottom on most roads and conditions in the UK but is not quite so 'boat' like as comfort or comfort plus
-I do find it still too soft when I do want some sporty driving so I still put it in sport then for that bit and then drop back to adaptive afterwards.
-I don't notice the seat bolsters tightening up at all in adaptive which I like when in sport.
-I do like that the stop/start cuts out in sport but wish that could be a feature of adaptive. (just for periods when one does feel like giving it off the line or roundabout).

-obviously one could program the car to default to adaptive and to not use start / stop but both features are useful on my regular commutes so still prefer the stock setup.

I do wonder if the MSport (which I assume you have @[Wills2] (contact:250902) ) provides more of a change in adaptive than my 'bog standard' 730d?

Glad you are enjoying it in any case, I know what you mean about falling in love with it again after a loaner...I had my A/C fixed this Summer and the 4 series GT loaner was a nice car but not a patch on the 7. Luckily I only end up driving mine 2 or 3 days max each week and that helps to keep it feeling special.

Safe travels.

Eco-Never!

Sport-Almost all the time, mostly for throttle response.

Comfort-long drives

Adaptive-Rarely ever because I dont think it adapts enough. I tried at the beginning for a while but it doesnt get the throttle response I wanted.

I wish I could have the throttle response of sport in comfort mode. I would use it more.

I am coded to start in SPORT every time

I tried out Adaptive and did not feel much "adapting", maybe I need to give it more miles and attention to the changes?

I don't have the integral active steering, which think you're referring to.

What do you mean coded? Is this a feature in the iDrive that one can select? Thanks

I've owned a F32 435i, F82 M4 ZCP, G01 X3 M40i, and now I drive a G11/12 750i. I find myself changing modes in this car significantly more than any of my previous adjustable cars. Comfort is a great default mode. Adaptive is a good mix of Comfort and Sport, but feels more planted than Comfort and offers more road feel. Adaptive shifts can be a little too quick while accelerating slowly. Comfort Plus is amazing for concrete roads but can get very floaty at speed. Sport mode is great if I want to hear the V8 (msport exhaust), and is very rewarding when driving aggressively!

By far the most dynamic suspension I've experienced. Wish I had ARS and IAS, though.

Autobahn package includes Integral Active Steering (which can be a standalone option) and Active Comfort Drive with Road Preview.

It means that my car ECU has been changed to always start out in SPORT mode whenever it is started.

You cannot change in iDrive, you need to code the ECU with Bimmercode or Esys.

I stay in Adaptive mode most of the time but on one of my routes, there are some nice twisties, so it is Sport mode then.

In the UK BMW doesn't offer an Autobahn package, they offer integral active steering and executive drive pro (adaptive rolls bars) as separate options, Active comfort drive with road preview isn't a listed option in the UK but sounds like executive drive pro.

you're probably correct, it's the one that reads the road surface (using the car's camera) and adjust the suspension accordingly to minimize roll, like the one in MB.

I have driven mostly light fast cars. So, with the G12, I’m excited to use the comfort mode. It feels different and I don’t feel the road bumps. I go through the same road to work, so I know what bumps to expect.

I tried the adaptive mode briefly and also thought it is a gimmick. I will give it another chance. Another reason to dismiss the adaptive mode, is to avoid stressing the suspension with the continuous change from sport to comfort and vice versa.

Not a big fan of the Active Lane Keeping Assistant. It engages to do its work but then suddenly decides to disengage! No warning that it is not in control and for no good reason.

Do you guys notice the car is hire adaptive mode than comfort? The past couple of days I noticed when I park, the car is really high! Is this normal or should I get the suspension checked?

No one is experiencing this issue with their G11!

Mine is in Adaptive 95% of the time and it works brilliantly, particularly because it’s got Executive Drive Pro so it’s adjusting the anti-roll bars as well plus using the camera as well as the other sensors.
