Climate Comfort Laminate Glass

Hi,

As I’m getting more serious about getting a G70 I’m wondering if the Climate Comfort Laminate Glass is just that, for UV/heat reduction or does it also include acoustic glass? In other words, if I don’t spec the car with this, would I not get acoustic glass and therefore I’d most likely encounter more noise?

Thanks!

IMHO noise is not an issue with the standard glass. Car is eerily quiet. Get the glass if you are in a climate where it makes sense. It would likely have to be a preordered car, as dealers don't often order that option.

Thanks! Interestingly the local dealer in Utah has it on all their orders for cars coming in but if noise is not an issue with the standard glass I should be able to get the same heat rejection with quality ceramic tint (which I’d want anyway for privacy and sun light).

I ordered it for mine, but haven’t been through a summer yet to see how much of a difference it makes. When looking at it from the outside, you can see that the color looks different

I have the laminated glass on mine and whle I can’t speak to the noise issue because I don’t know what it’s like without the laminated glass, but I can say, living in Los Angeles, that I drive all the time with the sun blind on top retracted. Even in direct sunlight I don’t feel heat on the top of my head

Does anyone know if the laminated glass also blocks out UV rays?

Can someone who has the car already without this laminated option check their side window glass and see if they are sandwiched layers? I get the point of that laminate glass option is for uv/heat. My dealer tells me acoustic glass is standard

I thought all auto glass is multilayer for safety purposes. Not sure you can tell about acoustic. I can tell you the car is exceptionally quiet.

Not quite.

Windshields are always laminated (two glass sheets bonded to a plastic layer sandwiched in between the glass).

Conventionally, the side windows were a single sheet of tempered glass - tempered meaning that if it breaks it'll explode into a million small, light, not-very-sharp pieces (whereas normal non-tempered glass would shatter into big heavy super sharp shards).

The windshield is already laminated; to make acoustic windshields they add a sound-absorbing sheet into that plastic sandwich. To make acoustic side windows, they make the side windows out of acoustic laminated glass instead of normal single layer tempered glass.

To make climate comfort glass, they add in a few more UV/IR rejecting layers into that plastic sandwich.

mattsrs if your dealer has any 7s on the lot which *don't* have the climate comfort option, you can check on those cars pretty easily. If the side windows have laminated (acoustic) glass, they'll be marked with "XI", see above the circled E2 in this photo: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...81&postcount=5

Additionally, if you roll down the windows halfway, you'll be able to see that there are two layers of glass with a plastic film bonded in between - the plastic layer will show up as a thin black or sometime white line between the two panes of glass.

Some historical info (for USA), the previous gen 7 series didn't have acoustic side glass when it launched in 2015, but the refresh in 2019 added acoustic glass as standard to the 750 V8 and 760 V12. Not sure about 740 I6. The X7 since 2019 has also had acoustic glass standard on the windshield and all side windows, on both the I6 and V8 trims.

Thanks for the clarification. I have had acoustic glass on my recent BMWs and Audis so I am familiar with them. Unfortunately the dealer sold all the 7 series on their lot so cannot verify if this comes as standard on all 2023 7 series but also cannot find any stock or dealer orders with the climate comfort option so have no choice but just take the base glass.

The climate comfort laminated glass is definitely not a standard item. It was a $1300 optional item that I had to add to my build for my car.

I had a chance to drive 740 and 760. The 760 has the double layer acoustic glass (similar to the photo I posted above) standard (the one I drove didn't have the comfort laminate glass package) even though it is not listed anywhere on the specs. The 740 has regular single layer glass.

I did not get a chance to drive a 740, but the 760 is definitely sound proofed to the extent a car can be sound proofed.

The windshield and side glass on the G70 760i are standard laminated glass. It offers superior acoustic properties over tempered glass but it is not identified as "acoustic glass"by the labeling on the glass. All windshields are laminated as required by law.True acoustic glass with an acoustic interlayer between the panes would be identified as such either by word or graphically.Climate comfort glass offers additional thin plastic layers in the glass sandwich for UV and infrared protection. It's acoustic properties should be about the same as the standard laminated glass. There's more about CCG online. It's been around for a while. With that being said,I wish BMW would offer true acoustic glass and active noise reduction on their premium models. They seem to only offer AG where there are noise problems. That could offer a possible another 2-4dB reduction in sound transmission.Enough to be noticeable.Just returned from a 2k mile road trip. The car was spectacular and didn't miss a beat.But-you definitely have wind noise with which I believe true acoustic glass would further mitigate. Not a big deal!!I love the car and it's about as close to perfect as it gets!Sorry to nitpick.

It’s not darker at all from what I could tell before I had the car tinted.

After having my 760 for about two months (without the comfort climate glass), and having had “acoustic glass” on my X5, I definitely miss the acoustic glass. 7 is quiet af and its base glass is the thickest I have seen on a car but when a trailer or loud car passed by you, the acoustic glass makes a noticeable difference

I have comfort glass on my 760 and it’s the most quiet car I’ve had but I definitely hear semi as well. Haven’t had any other car with acoustic car so can’t compare but it’s not that much better than my previous X5 with normal glass

Comes as Standard Spec in UK

We have it as part of the standard spec in the UK. I also had it on my previous 745e. As others have said, it does make a difference during the hot summer months. Therefore, if I was you I will choose it as an option or search for one that has it. However, it is not 100% perfect.

The sound installation is due to thicker layered glass and special layers. On my i7, it is not as good as it was on the 745e, particularly in the back. The glass seems thinner and there is less rubber around it to keep out the noise, including wind noise.

In my experience of BMW 7s, one always has to wait for the LCI to get the improved soundproofing treatment.

Confirmed on the website that the X7 is listed as having, under features, "acoustic glass" and the 760i does not.I'm pretty sure the Rollers get it!I don't get it!Again,AG is called out in the glass ID "bug" either by name or graphically with the ear symbol. With all the online info about the sound engineering for the G70 don't understand why BMW would not go the extra step.Oh well, maybe in the LCI.Don't even have laminated side glass in the 8 series. BMW seems to lag behind in glass tech. You'd like to think you could get IR protection and AG in one product.

Yes. Our local dealer has several 2024 i7 on the lot, and only 1 car is listed with the $1300 climate comfort glass on the window sticker.

Is this $1300 option a hidden offering? On the BMW USA Build your own, the climate comfort glass is not listed.

Thanks.

It’s not available on all models, but it’s definitely there on BMW USA Build site. I have it on my 760.
