2023 BMW 760i inoperable after a software upgrade!

About a month into the purchase of my brand new BMW 2023 760i, a suggested software update was initiated. This was to add the New Year welcome graphics and other needed upgrades. But, the software update gave me a different undesirable New Year present! Within 10-20 min, the car went totally inoperable/unresponsive. Had to tow the car to the dealership. The mechanic could not even open the doors, hood or the trunk upon arrival at the dealership. They were puzzled! The battery had no charge at all! That AM before the update the car was driving fine. A week into the interrogation of the car, some core component had to be ordered and changed which apparently takes about a month. So the car is sitting at the dealership. Very disappointed and devastated about the ongoing saga. I have contacted BMW, but have not gotten a reply about a buyback or getting a replacement/different car or even expediting the part. They did give me a service loaner. Any thoughts, constructive suggestions appreciated!

That’s incredibly unfortunate. I will share a similar situation as misery loves company. A few years ago, my wife drove a Lexus LS500, which we leased. During our lease, there was a recall on the vehicle due to a potential part failure and the recall was serious; driving the car endangered the driver. However, it took the Lexus dealership over 4 months to receive the part to repair our car. During that delay, the car was undriveable. As a result, I attempted to get credit for the downtime and not pay the lease payments for an inoperable car. Needless to say, Lexus and Lexus Financial refused to consider my request. I consulted an attorney, who said that I had a weak case due to the terms of the lease agreement and to just chalk it up to bad luck. So I paid 4 lease payments for a car that didn’t leave my garage. The bottom line is my family will NEVER lease or buy another Lexus. Hopefully, BMW has more empathy. Good luck.

Wow, that is a long wait! Hopefully my car issue is limited to that component that they are going to change.

From other posts I've seen on these forums, BMW Financial does seem to be more flexible with waiving lease or loan payments when you have issues with their cars.

It is possible for BMW to make payments on your vehicle since it is being repaired for an extended period of tine. The GM of the dealership or BMW financial will make that call. If approved, it will be in a form of a check mailed to you as a “gesture of goodwill”. I know because they have made 3 consecutive payments for me previously.

Update: They had to replace some sort of a control unit as well as the dead battery to fix the issue.

Glad you’re back up,and running. I was afraid to install the first update that i received after owning the car for only a week after reading your post.
