Display key button

I have this quadrilateral button on my display key and nothing happens when I press it except the screen which shows the button. Does anyone what this button does or if it is programmable and how to program it?

It is to activate the lights.

Press and hold and it will flash the headlights on the car. It's to help you find it in a car park.

You can configure the function to a degree, see below description from user manual (yours may differ slightly depending on year and features.

Via iDrive: my vehicle/vehicle settings/lights/exterior lighting;

Select one of the options: welcome lights/door handle/led door projectors.

(Lights need to be in certain position on light switch; automatic works for example)...won’t work if lights are ‘off’ position
