Check Engine Light

The CEL on my B7 turned on today. First time I've used the car since last Friday. I checked the gas cap and it was screwed tightly. I even re-screwed it. CEL is still on. I also checked the iDrive vehicle status and it says everything ok. I already had setup an appointment to bring to the dealer next Monday. Anyone else have this happen to their G11/G12 before?

Same thing happened on my G11 B7 today. About 5,800 miles on the car. I dropped it off for service. I’ll update my post when they tell me what the issue was

It was the lower grille shutter that broke on my B7. They had to take off the bumper and replace it.

Did it break or just the shutter motor failed?

On my car, they said the part they have ordered is radiator blinds.

Same thing for mine. It's an assembly.

I bet your active shutters are either stuck in the open or close position. That can easily trigger a CEL.

The lower ones were bad. See my previous post.

Got my car back today. Service manager said the shutters not working will NOT cause the car to overheat.

Service advisor said this is a common repair on many of the new models, including the X7, X5, and X3. She said it's so common, BMW could possibly have to do a recall.

Anyway, got the car back today and all is well.

Yep, was told the same that these shutters have been breaking frequently.

The part number on my replacement shutters is different from the original shutters installed at the factory. Hopefully they have identified and corrected the issue on the new part number but time will tell.
