Windows/trunk opening on their own.
I parked up front at the grocery store earlier and went in and did my shopping and when I walked out, I found my car sitting there with all the windows partially rolled down about 1/4 of the way and the trunk wide open. I swear I locked the car as I went inside and put the key in my pocket and didn't touch it again until I was walking out the door of the grocery store. I definitely never held down the unlock button which I know rolls the windows down after a few seconds.
Hopefully this is a one-time event. I had a Ford Raptor that would refuse to unlock if you parked anywhere near an automatic grocery store door. Something about the door's motion sensor interfered with the signal from the key. Maybe this is a similar glitch. |

Do you think something in your pocket was pressed against the remote? This is odd. Starting to get a little worried about my decision to purchase a first year model now. I have an issue going on myself. I don’t usually buy the first year models but thought enough R&D was put into such an important car for BMW.

There was nothing else in my pocket except for the car key. I was just pulling the key out of my pocket as I walked out of the grocery star and was about to press the button to pop the trunk when I noticed the trunk was already open and my windows were partially rolled down. I'm just glad nothing was missing from my trunk because I had a few things in there. Honestly, I've only had the car for a week and this was the first time I've ever parked it and left it outside for any amount of time. I hope this was a one time occurrence and never happens again.

Not unless there's a keycard in the glove box. Maybe in the owner's manual. I've never even looked at it. They just gave me two keys when I bought the car and that's that. The second key is stashed away and definitely wasn't in the car.

That’s not good. I wish the MyBMW would alert you when a door or window is left open similar to how many others do, including MB.

I may go back to the same store soon and park in the exact same spot right in front of the automatic door and then go inside and watch the car for a bit to see what happens.

This seems consistent with the key buttons being pressed while in your pocket. You can hold the unlock button to roll down the windows/sunroof... they'll keep rolling down until you release the button. (You may also be able to hold the lock button to roll everything up again).
So if the key had some pressure put on it for 1/2/3 seconds while it was in your pocket, that's how you would end up with the windows rolled 1/4 of the way down and the trunk opened. Maybe while you were walking away from the car after parking. |
