Share the pain of your first ding or scratch!
No one wants to post on this thread but maybe it helps the pain of that first ding or scratch by sharing it and hopefully getting some sympathy from your fellow 7 friends....
Just this week ticked over 37k miles on the odometer and noticed this scratch in the bonnet (hood) tonight...must have been a stone or some object that hit the bonnet recently... Gutted. At least it isn't too obvious and (not sure this is any better to be honest) at least I didn't do this by mistake or not paying attention...I had expected that it would be a bumper to be honest and a momentary lack of attention or speed in some parking job...but alas, it's a scratch and now have that behind me... (the photo shows the J shaped form of the scratch (the other marks are the clouds reflecting on the bonnet and trying to reduce the size of the jpg image). Anyone else wish to lessen the pain by sharing with the group...along the lines of 'hi, my name is Pelo, and I've had my first ding or scratch....' ?

Well, Ive had my sport 750 for about a month now and some asshat hit the rear of the car and left when it was parked along the street in front of relatives apartment.
Now, instead of enjoying the car, I have to make a hit and run claim, and part with the car for a few weeks. Il put some pix up but need to find another hosting page since photobucket decided to change its photo sharing policies.

Not the type of thing one wants to post about or hear about but my sympathy in any case, hope you get it sorted soon. Safe travels, at least you are not hurt and were not involved.

Well it was good while it lasted...came back from a two week holiday to find some @ss had hit my car (it was parked out of the way in the short stay car park at Heathrow (London)).
So, naturally no note with any contact details...can't see the garage operator looking through several weeks of video to try and see if it was captured on CCTV...and luckily nothing 'damaged' other than cosmetic. (parking works fine for sensors and surround view, cameras etc...) Just hoping I can replace the plastic and not have to replace the whole bumper with radar units, comfort access, etc...

I feel your pain.....I’d be steaming!! The risk of damage is the only stressful thing about owning my car, no idea how good / easy / expensive a repair would be due to the Pure Metal Silver paintwork.
Taking the Golf R to the airport tomorrow instead, although that’s only 2 months old and has already got a ding in the rear door..... Heathrow in a couple of months, but Emirates will be picking us up so my car can sit on the drive which is much better. |

Doesn't bear thinking about with the pure metal silver, a stunning colour but my god that would be outrageous to fix in a similar situation! (best to leave it at home indeed!) Hopefully you never have to find out! I'd love to take the wife's car (although newer) to the Heathrow car parks but she refuses to drive mine so it's a problem with benefits most of the time! She's already curbed one side of the alloys (and a nice set of 19" wheels as well...thank goodness we have insurance for that so will get them sorted as well...Hope this isn't some karma coming back...don't think I've been doing anything untowards to anyone! I'd love to take a chauffeur service like Virgin or Emirates offer and work does offer to pay for a third party service but the last thing I want when coming back from a long haul is to have to make polite small talk...I'll take the risk and enjoy the freedom of being in control of my own time and actions any day! Have a safe trip and maybe our land sharks will cross paths one day...

first scratch
4AM - driver from Austin to Houston, Alpin B7, - Hit a small pig, no time to react - speed 95 mph. No fluids were leaking directly after the hit and had 30 more miles to drive, the car drove fine - 3 miles outside Houston, every safety, bell, whistle went off, I pulled over, had the car towed and the oil had slowly drained from the car. wrecking the entire engine, so a new engine was replaced. This was my first scratch

The engine itself was not horrible, this happened 4 years ago, my memory says around 34,000, but the labor put it the mid 40's. It took 6-7 weeks for the repairs.

My pain is actually more than a ding or scratch. An inattentive driver veered on to my lane and hit my rear door and quarter panel on the right side last Monday. Was driving about 75 mph when this happened and it almost caused the car to spin. So far the estimate is almost $8k in damages and won't be done until early November.

Ouch! You have my sympathy tabiggs and jettie1767
Those are definitely things that no one wants to experience but glad you are both okay, material items can be replaced, people can't! (albeit at considerable expense and emotional drain...but still it can be sorted). Thanks for sharing, hope you both get your rides back to 100% and can enjoy these lovely beasts asap. Almost afraid to ask if anyone else wants to share their first 'rub'.... Safe travels everyone.
