i agree. also not a huge fan of the split lights either but the two tone and lack of m sport makes it look really classy. this one might actually age well

They've been innovators in the past. Especially the 90's and 00's. But they've lost their ingenuity. Trying to get it back, they're either copying other auto manufacturers entirely or missing completely (design choices).

But no, cancel me for saying 2+2=4.

Yes this looks one of those blatant Chinese copycat cars.

Time will tell whether Bmw got this right or not.

So if you think of it as more of a baby Rolls Royce instead of an inflated 5, it makes a lot more sense.
I think the Rolls headlight design though is light years prettier than the i7's. But I see your point

You and the 440i dude might want to take a look at the two-tone paint on many Rolls-Royce models. As you may know, RR is now a subsidiary of BMW AG and that’s where the two-tone paint inspiration comes from (as well as the automatic doors and several other, less obvious details).

Yea RR and BMW are together and what I find ridiculous is that the RR Cullinan doesn't have the bmw Auto-Hold feature for the most luxurious and one of the heaviest suv on the road. Makes entirely no sense. It's all a mess lol

No, its not that I'm not completely happy. I'm looking forward to it. It's just that there isn't a car out there that is perfect in every way. Styling is just one factor in my car decisions, and here the verdict goes to the new 7, as I want a great road car that is fun to drive, and I love the new technology. My other choice was a S class, which I seriously considered until I test drove one. It was nice, beautifully put together, butt the handling was inferior to my current G12. I was impressed by the MB, but way happier in my G12 when I got into it after the test drive. The BMW approach to handling is different than MB, and more to my liking. And the BMW approach to technology is more intuitive than MB (for me, at least; others may differ). So in the end, dealing with the nose is outweighed by more important factors - to me. YMMV, and I'm not going to argue with anybody for whom the front end is a absolute no-go. They're entitled to their opinion - and so am I.
Why wasn't the Panamera on the short list?

I actually don't have an issue with the two-tone point. That was the other guy.

This car has way too many colors, and way too many different materials and textures. I don't necessarily hate how it looks, but it just gives me a headache. What is all that recycled large pore cloth in there? Swarovski crystals for buttons, but no leather on those surfaces? The aesthetics are a tragedy, which is too bad, because the tech is freakin' awesome.

That's a good question. I never seriously considered Porsche. Maybe I should have. Maybe its because I'm getting old and am very comfortable with the BMW ergonomics (also MB from my wife's E wagon). I also have a BMW dealer and SA I can trust, so there is a comfort level there.

I did briefly look at Audi but my past experiences with Audi have not been great.

Did they change your production date? Going to status 150 I think means they will not allow any more changes in the order but does it mean the car is coming quicker?

I never had a production date , I had a production week for week 40 (First week of October) and after hitting 150 i can see the production date via the BMW website Chrome hack which is 10\7 so far it didn't change and although i hope it gets quicker but i highly doubt it will .From what i understand is that production week or production date is the date when your car should be already produced and ready to be dispatched not the date when they begin producing it . Also Hitting status 150 means they started the car manufacturing already and you get A VIN which I do now .
.

I can confirm that there are none at any US Dealers yet (as of 9/16). The closest ones have just finished production. Here's a screenshot from the national dealer locator for all G70 vehicles.

Generally speaking, the best selling is a flawed way to look at things.

What was the alternative to the 7 series 20 years ago? The limpy Audi A8 or the absolutely non-enthusiast S-class? There was a Lexus, but only in the US...

And then, today, you have what, a half a billion more people able to afford to buy a 7 series, and then there is a wealth of new models and BMW is uglier than competition, and BMW itself has the Rolls and there are Bentleys and S-class that drives well.. .Porsche makes a Panamera which any enthusiast who can afford one will consider over the 7 series at the very least. And Audi still has the limpy market covered. Not sure what Lexus makes.

And - the luxury sedan market has fallen a lot. Luxury SUVs on the other hand has gained a lot. in 2002 there was pretty much nothing in way of luxury SUV sans Range Rover perhaps, Cayenne was an offroader first and luxury second in 2004, and so on and on. Market has changed a lot. BMW 7 series will probably never sell as well as back then, when the tastes different and alternatives too.

BMW is making their XM car now - on top of X7, so thats clear where the focus is. 7 series is a niche car today, but it was not a niche car as such in 2002.

So this argument about best selling = best design is pretty silly. There is a lot more nuance in this, but - nuance is not part of the forums, so I digress.

If it was the worst selling 7 you'd sing a different tune. So many excuses. A lot of people liked it and spent money getting it, that's what best selling means.
