Best place to list a car for sale?

Where are you getting the most exposure in terms of online classifieds? I have a few months before my G80 is in, but I want to capitalize on this used car market now. I've posted on FB Marketplace, Autotrader, Craigslist, etc. Also on a few AMG enthusiast site. Anyplace else I should try?

Thanks!

Thanks for that tip. They are the best offer by far as of now. I'm holding out for a private sale at this point, but they gave me a great number!

I had good luck with online (Carvana) and local dealers. Sold one vehicle to Carvana and another one to a local dealer who offered more than Carvana.

I listed both vehicles for private sale in most portals / forums and in my case, the difference between dealer offer and private sale was not worth the effort and time.

I have good quotes from Carvana and Carmax, however I’m concerned about the following statement that appears on the bmw financial payoff instructions: “please note: this payoff is intended for you. This payoff will not be honored if sent by a third party or dealership “. Was this an issue for you? How do I get around this when Carvana says they plan to pay the payoff amount to bmw financial and pay me the rest? Also wondering if you had to pay any state taxes?

Facebook market place is your best bet to unload it locally. I was able to. And it’s free!

I know Audi stands pretty strict by this rule, not allowing you to get the favorable buyout price if going to third party or dealer. Can't say for certain that BMW cares.

As far as tax, obviously If you buy the car it applies. But if going to a dealer, the only money that touches your hands is the difference in the amount (in the form of a check from the dealer a bit after the deal). Dealers will communicate directly with BMWFS for the purchase upon your permission.

What an interesting rule. Any idea what the difference may be for their more "unfavorable" payoff amount? I was considering going with BMW FS for my G82 loan but with rules like that I guess I'll stick to one of my credit unions.

I have a good enough relationship with the CU that I had my F82 loan with that, in order to speed up the selling process with Carvana, they actually released my lien/title before the payoff and just asked me to send them the payoff amount when I got the money from Carvana. No way a major bank or BMW would have done that.

I've had good results with two sales on eBay. I'm in Colorado and one car went to California while the second went to New York. One buyer flew out and took the car in person, while the second arranged for shipping. One used certified check (always confirm funds before depositing), and the second did a bank transfer. In both cases, funds were verified and in my account before the cars were released and titles provided.

Was it easy? I just got an insane offer for my M2C. I am thinking I will let them have it.

I’m thinking the problem a with private sale is that you’d have purchase the car first and pay state taxes . You’d lose any extra money you might make vs a sale to a dealer .

Update: just spoke to bmw financial. They allow you to sell your car to a dealer like Carvana , they will release the title to them . Apparently this rule only applies to a private sale so not sure why the verbiage states “dealer”.

Keep in mind Carvana has a statement that they will not payoff a lease that’s under 60 days to maturity date. Carmax does not have this rule. Carvana does say contact us if it’s under 60 days so they may do it on a case by case basis. Mine was under 60 days so I extended lease another 60 days which they do no questions asked.

I plan on selling my car to Carvana at the end of this month. I am first in line supposedly for my G 80 AWD allocation but nothing from dealer yet - worried that I may not take delivery of anything beyond September. I do have a friend who will loan me a car for a couple months but do not want to extend that and impose upon him

It was nuts, I got my downpayment back. The deal worked for me as I can now roll that into the m3 order. I feel it was a great deal because of that aspect and I basically paid for a year use of the car (payments, insurance, registration) and all those renewals came after I sold so it made a heck of a lot of sense.

A buddy of mine sold his 2016 M4 to them the same day, got near 3 grand over what everyone else was offering.

Overall it was a very simple and nice process.

https://carsandbids.com This is Doug DeMuros new site. I think it is a good place to sell cars of interest to enthusiasts. I enjoy just looking at the selection. Check it out.

That reminds me, I purchased my 335is off of www.driveanything.com years ago. Guy pretty much only deals in sports cars, I'm sure he'd entertain making offers.

Wow, there are 2013 M3s on there right now for $75K; are those really selling for that these days?

Vroom, Carvana, Shift, KBB, Carmax.

Get quotes from the all. Dealers are hurting for inventory, they are paying ridiculous prices for used cars.

I just went through this with Carmax/Carvana/Vroom on a US Bank lease for my Wrangler. In short, it was $32.3k if I bought it and $37k if a dealer bought it. So it's a major hassle to pay it off myself, wait for the title, retitle in my name, then sell it, but it's still worth it for $4-5k equity. My buyout included full sales tax on the $29.5k or whatever that I owed.

I have a Chevy SS that I am looking to sell. This might be a good site for that, thanks for the info.

The way the used car market is right now, you could probably spray paint your phone number on a conveniently placed roadside cow and have a dozen good offers within an hour.

I sold a high mileage, and clean, 4Runner in 48 hours locally on craigslist. Strong price, turns out I could have listed it for more. Buyer and seller were happy.
