Bland, boring, ugly, hideous grill. There's nothing good to say about this 7. It could be argued there hasn't been an attractive 7 since the E38.

I disagree with your statement but I agree the E38 might be the top of the heap. I think the E34 is top one or two of the 5er too. That era made some classic BMW's that will never be unattractive. I think we'll look back and say the same about the G's.

I know the E38 and E34 don't really match up in years, but you get the idea.

Clearly - BMW design departments needs to start again. If they can't see how 'unspecial' and incoherent that design is, then they should get out of designing cars. The shut line on the bonnet, the invisible headlights, the horrible fascia and ill proportioned grill.

Sadly they only design cars for people without any taste these days, so it will do well in China and Russia I guess. Interior is ok, but again, why does it just seem so much like a larger 3 series but with better leather.

Actually that is unkind to the 3 - which looks fine apart from the horrible door handles which is why they ditched them on the 4.

My car is arriving at the port on Thursday.

I have been through this many times with cars. They are always nicer in person than they look in pictures. What isn't great, grows on you.

I have had so many S classes over the years. I went to buy one first before the 7, and was really not impressed. I got a brand new one last week with 23 miles as a loner for my present S class in service, and it was really just OK. I will be really disappointed if the 7 is not nicer.

I am hoping!

I think the 7 will be a winner to some. I think the color and front end have to be chosen for best look. I think the M bumper/front end should only be paired with dark colors. I think the non-M works well with either.

What did you choose.

I actually don't think it's as ugly as recent 7s have been, especially from side profile. However...Are those 2 series rims? Are the shipping blocks still in it or is it going for the 4x4 90s suburban on tiny rims look? How long before there is no hood and the bumper is just attached at the firewall...sea of plastics.

What an ugly ass car. The only thing it has going for itself is the interior.

The interior is indeed nice, except that shitty looking $300 LCD strip that they now call the instrustment cluster

Is your 540 rwd a daily driver? I had one of the first Lexus LS460L RWD and even with AS tires I couldn't get up my driveway when we had .5 inches of snow in MD. Never getting a RWD again for a daily driver. If this was a garage queen, then it's a different story.

I live in NYC, and only find awd helpful when getting out of a snowed in parking spot. In actual city and Highway driving, i haven't found it to matter much. My Honda odyssey back in the day handled highway driving better in the snow. Your tires matter much more in actual driving

No human being is perfect. You fall in love with all the good points and you learn to love the imperfections.

That is reality.

I actually like the new front when it's a dark color. In white it looks horrible

I live in Northern Virginia. Right on the other side of the Potomac river. Have a 2018 540i for 4 years as a daily driver. Do not feel any difference from my other xdrive cars under bad weather, the X5 or the 328XI, or the 535XI-GT I had which BTW I loved (I know most people hate it). I do have a set of snow wheels/tires for it as I thought it may handle badly in snow days when I first bought the car, but I did not bother to change to snow tires for last couple of years because I manage to drive it in snow days just fine. From now on, I would actually prefer a RWD car for the less weight and slight better MPG. Maybe you live in a more hilly area.

I just read this: https://www.topgear.com/long-term-ca...-auto/report-6

In short, BMW remains pigheaded in their strategy to provoke emotions. They apparently prefer postive ones, but even negative ones are better than no emotion since they are convinced that when it does provoke, they innovate and we will finally adjust and see the brilliance in it.

Interesting. Maybe it was just my experience with Lexus. Also, keep in mind, Lexus LS460L and BMW 7 series are much longer and heavier than 5 series. That could possibly explain your experience vs mine.
I actually wanted to order a 2023 740, but when I learned it's not available in AWD, decided to order 760.
