This is a sidebar unrelated to the above post. We can also add the declining levels of testosterone in the younger male population that's also an issue. If you have a vice, why? People just don't pick up an addiction or a compulsive habit without an underlying issue. |

I think straight legal age porn is like anything else, if you become addicted to watching it, that's telling you there may be a problem. I mean if you want sex, go get a girlfriend and get the little guy wet. The other unmentioned genres which are illegal is definitely telling you there's a problem.

Amusing to me how many assume that women don't consume porn (quite incorrect assumption BTW). Like so many other things, now the shoe is on the other foot - men get to wonder if she is fantasizing about a guy with a baseball-bat sized unit, just like their female partners had to wonder if he really ws thinking about Ms. April's silicone injected Barbie-doll proportions. I suspect that once that sinks in there may be a little more willingness to recognize that the totally unregulated access to this is pretty disruptive for healthy development.

Yes and no.
Yes. Men and women who use it excessively (not talking addiction) can develop an unhealthy dopamine hinge. By this I mean they have too much excitement it leads to dopamine burn out. As in, the only way to get it up/get in the mood is to watch hours of it or even dark stuff such as rape porn. Or dopamine burn out where real sex doesn't feel rewarding or feels mundane. Excessive use can mean it might take longer to become aroused, unrealistic expectations of a partner(s) expecting them to perform like a porn star when they are not built like that, insecurities in partner(s) not feel sexy/beautiful enough, and even to the point it puts someone's security at risk e.g., someone accessed a shady site which accessed their phone camera. Or even just not feeling like they will get a tinder date because they don't look like the guy in the video.. so they become depressed. I don't know what the research is in terms of men watching lots of it and then going out and assaulting women but there might be something out there. If men can search for kids online and hurt children then it probably stands to reason that some might cross the barrier and become serial attackers. No. It's healthy to explore and everyone has different limits. Someone might watch it with a partner to become aroused but they still respect each other etc. and don't rely on it to climax. They can go without it if need be. Women do consume it. Probably the same amount if not more. Possibly because most women don't have a refractory period. Some women have a few minutes. Basically she's ready to go again after she has peaked. For this she may or may not watch more of it to go again if that's what she uses when solo or putting on a show. I don't even know if I have answered the question. Probably gone a bit random. |

I think it personally is detrimental. There's the dopamine hit that was mentioned previously, but I guess I'd also compare it partially (though not the same) to having sex with multiple partners instead of one. It is my hypothesis, though I don't know, that if you have multiple partners before marriage, that each one brings something different to the table that the other does not (sexually speaking) and vice versa. I think as a result of that, you inevitably wind up comparing the person you married to the others in some way and wishing they did *this*, whatever *this* was. Whereas, had you not had any sex before marriage, you wouldn't have a clue what you were "missing" so to speak. And there wouldn't be the same comparison, by extension, you are then happier. I think porn basically brings that back in, not to the same degree of course because you aren't experiencing it physically / emotionally, but it creates these unhealthy comparisons which doesn't help your relationship. This is partially why I'm an advocate for abstaining from sex before marriage, though I completely understand the temptation. To administer the coup de grace to this thread though, I'll have to say it is also because it is a Biblical command. |

"develop unrealistic expectations of what sex is like"
parents dont tell you schools dont tell you sex-ed doesnt tell you your friends bullshit you behind the bike sheds dont tell you hollywood movies are usually are rom-coms and full of grade a bull so that ONLY leaves porn The only realistic expectation is the feeling I get driving around topless errm, I mean top-down EVERYTHING and I MEAN EVERYTHING in this God forsaken planet is unrealistic Quote:

Part of the detrimental aspect is how mainstream it has become. It's now acceptable for Kardashian to release a video of her in the act and then become a literal thought leader for our youth. Or if it has supercharged the libidos of incels. Who compare themselves to the men in the videos, as pointed out, and revert their frustration to video games that reward shooting as many strangers as possible. Using graphics WAY more real than the 32 bit games we once played. It just seems like our society is being fed so much garbage - but nobody is really asking the right questions of why "the patients are running the asylums."

Very detrimental as it replaces human contact with a fake virtual one, creates a disturbed view of reality, and so forth.

I just read one of the above replies and it made me think, one of the excuses, reasons (depending on your POV) is that porn is an outlet ?
several cases 1> joe ordinary, no indication of crime or criminality nor wanting to go out and commit crime, uses porn as a release, be it your bog standard meat and 2 veg, or hard bondage, it full fills a needs he can't get, no harm has been done to anyone, he goes on to live a long productive life in society.maybe win a nobel peace prize 2> Joe wifewont guy, wants to do bondage, scat, anal, what ever, either doesnt want wife to think he's a deviant, or maybe asked and she called him a deviant, doesnt want to be unfaithfull, i.e. hooker, gets a release from porn, his partner cant or wont satisfy 3> Joe wifedef wont guy, this guy, is not going to do this real world, but his real kick is kiddie, rape, heavy BDSM, he is NOT going to tell his wife for sure and same as 2 doesnt wanna go to a hooker, for what ever is in his mental thought pattern, he needs to fulfill that urge, and def doenst ever wanna do that real life. 4> Joe just on the tipping point guy, this guy is on the edge, he needs hard ilegal porn, that's the only thing that works... if he doesnt use porn, there is a risk he could go out and do whatever is in his depraved mind or 4a> as above Joe's brain is scrambled and watching make believe porn, he thinks rape kiddie, snuff what ever is real life and bingo does porn lead you on to do more things, if you are vulnerable, does it STOP you from going to far because it's an outlet, does it stop you going out with hookers and bringing back an STD because wifey work suck you d ICk because "i wasn't bought up like that you Goddamn freak" ? |

I coulnd't remember the study for the life of me but we did research criminality and porn so I had to google it up but there was a good study which said
In the 1970s, Berl Kutchinsky, a professor of criminology at the University of Copenhagen, measured sex crimes in Denmark, Sweden and Germany as they legalized porn in the late 60s and early 70s. He found no correlation between a rise in crime and decriminalization – and in fact, some types of sex crime fell during this period, including rape and child molestation. so could the answer to OP, be it can't be detrimental if it's been proved to reduce criminality against women and children ? Porn is acting as an outlet |
