G70 Software bugs and issues.

Any owners out there with Software bugs that’s been plaguing their BMW experience? Constant attempts to get it resolved by BMW but only to end at square one? I know ESIM issues are a main one.

Here’s a few issues I’ve experienced.

*Soft close door issues
*Roof Sunblind functionality
*Excessive ESIM issues
*Seat Calibrations
*Carplay disconnects

i've got only one software bug to complain about
- eSIM (eSIM and reader)

all other things are working by design even if nagging (some severely)

Do you bring your vehicle in for service for some of those severely nagging issues for BMW’s recording records at least?

I feel fortunate because I don't have any of these issues except the eSim which has gotten much better since the last software update, but still not perfect.

i've had a meeting in the experience center with them. three people where there, a genius/product owner, the customer relation manager and another one. all three competent and prepared.
we discussed for at least 2 hours all details and they took notes. it was a very productive meeting. i sent them a registered letter with three categories: inacceptable (eSIM), stupid/not thought through and would be nice if improved. we went through all points in detail, them asking/me explaining. very professional! i have to say, an excellent customer experience!

some of the things have been addressed are being worked on and some are just not possible due to hardware (like missing a button as example).

now, the issue with the eSim... BMW replaced the reader and the head unit, didn't help much. with another provider it's working, with mine it's not...

this case is still open and now at the telco operator. they had contact to BMW and i now will report the next time when data is not working. the 2. level support didn't understand why the module gets an IP and then loses it. tweaked a few things, but it works or doesn't depending on the moon and tide (at least it works some times...)
the telco offered me to refund me 10.- each month - that's the cost for the eSim solution option. so it's free and i have a spare SIM

i'm not going to let go here as the hotspot is a must feature when working in the car. i paid for it - it has to work.

Great read! I’ve been going back and forth to the DEALERSHIP, my next appointment they will be doing I-Level programming with engineering in Germany on some of my issues.

Running 11/2023.42 for the last few weeks. Esim (knock wood) now connects almody every time from startup. Prior to that I would get "setting up esim" about 1 of 3 times the car was started.

I’m on 11/2023.58. I’d get that message pretty often in the early versions, it’s better now but it still happens. It’s going back to BMW soon for I-Level programming to get it like advertised.

What software version are you running? Have you been in contact with BMW about these issues? I’ve had all of these issues except for the speaker. Everything has been fixed except for the ESIM. Persistent nagging at the dealership made them get most of these issues resolved after multiple attempts. My dealership was working with “TSARA” directly.

Roof sunshade won’t open unless I keep my finger on it the whole way. Won’t close when theatre starts, and no option or grayed out in back seat if I tried to close all blinds.

Also crackling noise coming from driver headrest speaker when I get into seat at first. (Might not be software issue though) could be loose wire.

Other than that car pretty flawless.

Getting terrible kw/m though. Like 2.3 and not driving it hard.

Sure. It’s supposed to get over 300 miles per charge which is 3 miles per kw based on a 100 kw battery. I am only getting average of 2.3 or 230 miles per full charge.

In kilometers it should get you on a full charge 483 kms. If you go into your live vehicle app icon it’ll tell you how many miles/kms you’re averaging. Mine is not great. Mostly city driving I guess.

For the sunroof…. Hold the button down until the roof starts closing or opening, let it complete 2 cycles until it stops, this should recalibrate it.

converted it makes 27 kwh / 100km - interesting....

and i noticed something like that too

what the app tells me: 22.90 kWh/100km or 2.7 miles per kWh
calculation based on SOCwhat the app tells me:28.64 kWh/100km or 2.2 miles per kWh

now, where is that 0.5 miles per kWh going?

that's what i'm investigating.
it could be: conversion loss, comfort functions, consumption while not driving.
what i don't know if this is supposed to be included or not...

i'll do another run today as i've got 2x 120km to drive - car is charging to 100% right now

I'm happy to share I've had none of these issues with my car.

so, i did a second test!

start:
SOC: 100%, temperature 10°C

drive path and conditions:
car wash, lunch, meeting, home: 85% motorway.
efficiency mode, used boost 2-3 times, several times acceleration over 50% driving the legal max speed. 25% obstructed road, over a distance of 30km stop-and-go and creeping between 30-80 km/h. wheater clear, 10°C, nearly no wind.

data collection:

mid drive check 1:
data from dashboard: 22.7kwh/100km, driving time 1:03h, km:100.0, recuperation 3.6 - SOC: 76%

mid drive check 2:
data from dashboard: 21.7kwh/100km, driving time 2:24h, km:202.0, recuperation 9.9 - SOC: 55% (damn, i missed the 200km...)

full drive:
data from dashboard: 21.2kwh/100km, driving time 3:02h, km:259.3, recuperation 13.0kwh - SOC: 43%

the conclusion:

the SOC is 43% and calculated it should be 46%

the loss is about 3% which makes 3kWh net
that means i lost 1kwh/h

the shown consumption is 21.20kWh/100km,
the actual is 22.36kWh/100

there is a loss of approx. 1kw/h per hour

not sure where that comes from... i guess its some loss that occurs in conversion, probably when charging the battery. i'll ask BMW...

-> i hope my calculations are good, i did a little XLS, available uppon request.

@Laguna Beach
please do the following:
- charge to 100%
- drive
- take two picutes like i did
