We tour the Feuerwehrmuseum - Fulda, Germany...
Deutsches Feuerwehr-Museum Fulda e.V. Winter season (November 1 till March 31): Daily, except Monday from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, and by appointment. cost: 5,- € Let me just say this museum has been on my radar for a long, long time. When ever I had time to visit them, they were either closed in the off season or it was a Monday or Life had just gotten in the way - for me to tour the place. After all these years I am glad I was able to go visit this museum. What a off beat museum it was. I think a lot of us are captivated by the fire department. I remember growing up as a small child, in NYC(Queens) living across the street from FDNY Engine 273 Ladder 129, in Flushing Queens, NY - every time I would hear their sirens go off... I would rush to the window of our small tenth floor apt, and look down with excitement JUAST as the fire fighters would rush out to a call. I had a lot of fire truck toys as a kid. One of my favorites were from Hess gasoline around Christmas they would sell these cool working Fire Trucks complete with siren and lights. I think ever since then, I was hooked on Fire Trucks. Back to the Deutsches Feuerwehr-Museum Fulda e.V(German Fire Dept Museum Fulda)... I really was not sure what to expect. I really could not find much info on this museum - over the years. Even their website did not give me much to go off of. It seemed to be run more as a hobby than as a museum that would generate revenue. When I arrived here back in October... that was exactly how I would describe the place: a place to hang out at and reminisce. Don't get me wrong... this is a cool museum. But it is also a place for people who love the Fire Dept to hang out in and volunteer their time at, and talk "shop". At least that was my impression of the place. When I arrived... the "regulars" were eating their lunch in the corner of museum. They asked me IF I wanted a tour... I declined, as I prefer to roam around freely taking my time. But it was nice to see a museum where they had such a great sense of community or club like atmosphere. Next door they had an even larger display area... where one of the museum people HAD to go with you. That is where the real jewels were hidden away. But more on that in a moment. Bellow are my pictures of my visit. I hope you enjoy them. While the museum isn't for everyone.... it is a cool place to visit. Its one of those off-beat museums, that I find interesting. I hope you will too. Dackel Now for my pictures.... temperature fire test sensors... carnival toy ride... VW Beetle engine powered water pump...

Thanks Chris. I am just sorry our schedules didn't allow us to go visit this museum together. I'm hopeful we will get the chance to explore the Alpine roads of Berchtesgaden this year!

Let's see when our Alpine-Tour is about to happen and then we can plan it either before or aftwards. Big plus is also that there is no IAA in Frankfurt this year..
