July update

Does anyone know when the July update will be released, and what updates will be in it?

It was released temporarily in the UK, through service centres and not remotely, but then suspended quickly due to a bug causing it to malfunction. A revised version is now expected at some point towards end of July - early August.

I guess it would be the same in other countries.

Do you know what was included in it?
Ie anything substantial, or just bug fixes like the march update

07-23 is out. Includes iDrive 8.5 for those vehicles which are capable. For G70 this is model year 23 vehicles. I programmed a G70 today and 8.5 was on the display. Only touched around for a few minutes, was busy working on the car.

FYI, dealer software updates are not covered under warranty. Remote software upgrade with 07-23 should release around September and will be free of course.

I've seen that 8.5 temperature control screen a number of times now and am FAR from fond of it. The first thing I always think of when I see it is the grill of a '48 Chrysler or thereabouts. It's just WAAAY too busy in how it "points" to the seats.

You can likely get all this info online about what is different with iDrive 8.5.

So while iDrive 8.5 is available in BMW database, US dealers are instructed not to update the software just because customers ask them so. Meaning BMW will not pay dealers to update software without any other reason. The only way to get iDrive 8.5 through dealers before OTA comes is if your car needs another repair that requires software update, dealers must update software to the latest version

This is how programming updates have always been. You will get the update around September when it is available via RSU.

Exactly, my car is in for other repairs, requiring an update, and they said I would get the new 8.5.

Hopefully, I will get my car back today. I am told there are bug fixes as well, but not sure anyone actually knows what those are.

It’s kind of difficult to tell what is being adjusted in this screen, I’m guessing it’s fan speed but it looks like it’s referring to seat cooling controls. I’m sure that I’ll figure it out when the update arrives.

Don't be so sure. BMW tests us with its software. I'm happy they don't require owners to pass a "customer interface interaction" qualification test to buy one of their cars.

Seriously, as much as we like to complain about aspects of ID8 or 8.5, in my view, based on my wife's '23 MB E Wagon with latest MBux, BMW does a pretty good job of simplifying compared to Mercedes.

I seen a video that in the new idrive 8.5 update the 7 series gets a new feature, upon approaching the drivers door with the key in your pocket the drivers door will automatically open without the need the fiddle with the app or the door itself. Anybody have any more information on this?
