Cleaning fingerprints from control screen

Can anyone advise what is the best method for removing the smudges and fingerprints from my control head unit (on dashboard)? They really look the worst on a sunny day.

I used cheap glass cleaner from the 99 cent store I had laying around, but it seems to leave streaks.

I use a product called Whoosh - you can get it from Amazon. It works very well and will not damage the coating on the screen

Glass cleaner will ruin the screen over time. Microfiber should be enough for fingerprints, 70% isopropyl alcohol will clean anything else stuck on screen.

Never used anything more than a good quality microfiber.
If any liquids are needed water will do the job. I just make a corner wet.

On plastic and screens it’s best to stay away from any chemicals IMO

Get a small bottle (like those used for eyeglasses) and fill it with distrilled water and 2% ONR solution and keep it in the car along with the smallest microfiber towel you can find. This works like magic. 100% safe, and ONR is a safe too with great properties to collect dust and oil residue from surfaces including glass, yet used as a lubricant. In fact this ratio makes a great glass cleaner too.

Search ONR on the web. It’s all about the ratio. 2% is good for your inquiry. Have been using it for 6 years now at different dilution ratios to make a quick detailer, dry-aid after a car wash, and even rinsless wash, glass cleaner, as well as seats/leather quick detailer by adjusting the ratios as needed.

I use any interior cleaner that is rates as safe for touchscreens. Currently this is what I am using:

That also works really well on wood trim, piano black surfaces really anything inside the car, even for a quick leather wipedown.

Ive been using this with a microfiber low knit

Damp microfibre cloth followed by a dry lint free microfibre never had issues

Careful, careful, careful, right?! Seriously though, this all reminds me of my friend, who in the 70s had one of those new-fangled Japanese mini pickups. The inside was SO bare-boned that to wash it he opened both doors of the cab and went at it with a garden hose! Swear to Buddha (or deity of choice)!!

I actually never touch the screen... My AC is always on auto, and other than that, EVERYTHING else is setup based on my hand signals with "Gesture Control", and the rotary knob and buttons on the central console are sufficient for all my needs. It's probably the last iDrive system, and likely the last software in the luxury segment, that would allow full functionality with both touch or buttons independently at the same time.

The only time I touch it is when am back from a soccer match and want to turn off the seat heaters. I can do that from the central console, but it's easier to just poke the screen quickly. Everything else takes the same level of effort either by touching the screen or using the buttons and rotary knob.

Microfiber towel and window cleaner

In previous cars, I scratched control screen by simply wiping. In my current car, I have purchased the glass protector for the whole screen and attached. So far I love it since I do not have to worry about scratching it. This may be an option for you.

Had my detailer use matte PPF for the screen. Been about 5 months and haven’t seen one fingerprint yet. They sell pre cut kits on Amazon. Trust me, looks way better as well, and I only dry wipe for dust every week or so. You’ll never look back!!!
