Just picked up my 760i. No automatic doors. Dealer said there's a huge recall with the sensors not working properly.
I was very disappointed.

I am not sure which update they did but, on my one, it took approximately 40 mins and the light bar started to work with all its functions as good as before the fault occurred. I guess they must have updated one of the patches.

On the i7 the 12v battery is connected to the car's High Voltage battery. Therefore, in order to do a full battery reset, you MUST first disengage the High Voltage battery and allow it to drain. If you fail to do this, you are exposing yourself to a really dangerous situation and could also potentially seriously damage your car.

It is therefore certainly not as easy as "disconnecting the negative battery terminal" on the 12v battery.

The whole process, if done properly will take about 45mins to an hour.

It will also most likely simply mask the cause of the issue rather than to fix it permanently.

It would therefore be best to simply book the car in for a full software update as this will ensure that all the software patches are up to date. Most likely such an update will fix the issue. I am going to have this booked to be done on my i7 within next 4/5 weeks and will update you accordingly- unless someone else gets to have theirs updated quicker than me!!!!
It takes a couple minutes if done properly. I don’t recommend people to disconnect their 12v or HV unlsss they know how to do it properly. Disconnecting the 12v with an active HV system can cause arcing in the switch contactors located in safety box and greatly reduce their life. A hard shut down causes wear to the equivalent of ~20,000 or so proper shutdowns of HV system.

Hello everyone I recently acquired a 740i Carbon Black and also had the passenger vent and Auto door button go out as well 2 weeks in of ownership. The process was fairly simple to fix and diagnose according to my service advisor. They removed the light bar and disconnected the terminals and cleared the fault codes. Re-installed and all is working like it should.
Best of luck to everyone who is having this issue.

Now its my turn. Have had the car for about 10 weeks and been fine. Today, got home turned off the car exited the car and went to passenger side and opened the door and the moment door was opened those lights on the light bar near passenger side went off. This seem to be definitely some of electrical issue. Will take it to dealer next week

The button issue I have is the rear blinds button on the drivers door neither raises nor lowers the blinds. It brings up the blinds menu on the screen — and that works. I’m not sure I even want them to fix this as I had raised the blinds several times looking for something else on the door by feel. Then I started to think that maybe the last software update might have made this change deliberately. Anyone out there who can educate me on this?

All that button does is bring up the menu on the screen. It is working correctly. It is basically a short cut button.

Didn't they tell you it was deleted from your build after you ordered the car?

Nope. I found out when I picked it up and went looking for the button to open the door.
So any word if they’re going to bring it back?
Is it just the exterior button delete and software decoding or other hardware too?
I wonder if it can be coded back in, at least to tell BMW to open/close doors and with the interior button.

Thank you. I happen to like it that way, but when I got my (first) G70 end of November last year, the door button worked to open and close the shades. This was a royal PITA as it was easy to hit the button accidentally. I believe it changed with one of the OTA updates and thats the way it is in my current car.

Interesting, my car was built on 4/20 and currently waiting at port, and all the options I picked seemed to have been preserved on the BMW My Garage website.

The VIN decoder websites also shows that I have the automatic doors (3CD), theater screen (6FR), executive lounge (4F4 and 4F5), and everything else. (I picked everything I could except for two-tone paint.)

Must have just made it through before the parts shortage really hit.

Just to add to this, I recently noticed the rear automatic doors aren't working as it should be so the car is currently sitting with the dealer to fix a bunch of other issues. I seriously hope there is no recall on the doors.

My son has been complaining about this as well in my car.

Edit: Nevermind, I had accidentally pressed the child lock button. Doh!

Apparently my dealer just told me the same thing - he expects the entire light bar to be replaced due to sensor issues.

Just want to share that my dealer also said they fixed those buttons by software update. When I took it to service, my SA said there’s a mandatory update available so that’s the first thing they did before even diagnosing the buttons issue but it fixed them too

+1
Just picked up my car from the dealer, this was fixed too with a software update, but there is still a possibility they may change the entire light bar if the problem recurs.
