Interested to hear your thoughts after the test drive. The power band is very different than s55 and also has very long gearing. Don’t hesitate to back out, unless you’re tracking the car heavily I don’t know if it will be exciting enough on the street. I’ve experienced the “decide in haste, repent at leisure” a few times after a short test drive

I'm 5'11" at 140lbs and after driving a friend's 981 GT4 the buckets are way too wide for me. When I got a fixed bucket for my BRZ I set in two dozen seats until I found one I was happy with (Cobra Suzuka), and although it's very snug in a test fit it's still a little too loose on track. My preference is either a really snug bucket or regular sport seats (a 982 Boxster GTS I drove with the base seats were fine for canyon carving).

Appreciate the feedback. I’m keeping the CS, so I can still get that around town accessible torque when I get the itch. I’ve heard the GT4 is long gearing and really needs to be wrung out to enjoy.

Im okay with that. I’m really interested in having a 2 seat, mid engine manual sports car and have been wanting to get into a Porsche for a while. I’ll track it occasionally, but it will be a weekend back road, cars and coffee, errand running toy that IMO will look awesome in the garage next to the M2. Also, my biggest gripe about the M2 is the exhaust is too tame unless you’re at WOT.

With the 981 GTS trading near $80K and even low option S models near or even above $60K, I thought it would make sense to get the 1 year only limited production variant.

There’s a chance I don’t like the drive, but I think unlikely. I feel like this is a car if I get tired of it after a couple of years, I won’t lose too much if I decide to part ways with it.

Interesting. I didn’t consider that the buckets might not be snug enough. I’ll pay close attention to that on the test drive.

I have been hitting the gym the past few weeks, so hopefully I can fill out out enough.

What is your approximate timetable for adding the new ride to the garage?

It might be worth getting some estimates on trade in value if you were to get rid of it. Worried that the carfax hit will hurt you when/if you sell and overall ownership cost might be lower if you buy a more expensive version now

There’s the similar spec on BAT with 35K miles, minor on CarFax, but no buckets, no PCCB, no Sport Chrono, some significant blemishes on 3 panels/1 wheel and looks like more wear inside.

It’s sitting at $77K with 3 days left. I’ve been watching the 981 market and it’s really strong right now.

Is it a sure thing? No, but I think I’m going to take my chances.

I appreciate the feedback.

Not a huge inventory of 10 year old CPO GT4s. Gets real thin when you narrow it to silver or blue cars. Good insight, though.

Hard to believe it's been 10 years already! This one is Agate but half the miles and CPO with a carfax ding, $105k loaded MSRP asking $104k and I'd bet $98-100k takes it:

as someone who was lucky enough to have many of the cars on your list
3 NSX's (NA1)
1 981 CS pdk
1 718 6MT
and current R8 V8 6MT

they are all great cars and offer different level of use and enjoyment.

Loved all of them and really miss my NA1's, but the current R8 has been my favorite.
It just feels the most special out of all of them.

can get a minty well sorted one for under $100K

The great thing about buying these kind of cars used, is that you either break even, make a little money or lose a few bucks when it's time to move on to the next one.

I've always wanted a GT4, GT3 or Spyder, but you can't go wrong with any of your short list as long as you get the right one(well sorted)

Hunting one is half the fun....happy hunting

The CPO would be great, but I think I’ll take my chances since this one doesn’t have bucket seats, and I prefer the GT Silver with Silver wheels. I think it’s just classic Porsche and timeless. That does seem like a fair deal compared to some of the outrageous prices I’ve seen online.

I do like the Agate too, but shipping would cost $2K+.

I agree! I’m already mentally sold on the silver GT4 below. Test drive on Saturday and I can drive it home in 90 minutes.

Great stable of cars you have! The R8 was definitely a close second to the GT4 for my use case, specifically the V8 gated 6MT.

Here’s the car I’m 99% getting:

Thanks. Yeah, I’m getting it. Lol.

I get it. Took me years to get my wife to sign off on a second toy for me. I promised to save her one of the 3 garage stalls for her car.

Well, your history of cars is epic including the R8.

I'll go kiss my wife - we have 1 minivan and 3 fun cars. A C8 for her, the BRZ for me and the 335i convertible for us (but actually for me, too)
