I've been a C6 Corvette owner for like 12 years now. I NEVER expected to be here where it was just like... There's nothing else out there I would honestly trade it for. When I got into them, I assumed I'd eventually roll into a Cayman GTS or 911, maybe a Viper... But after having driven all sorts of stuff that's "faster and better" I realize it just.... isn't more fun.

I find myself looking more and more at older classic and modern classics, because they're just more fun to drive, more reliable and easier to work on, and often cheaper and better looking.
I'm pretty much like you. Perhaps it's an age and wisdom thing?

Once I got into the 30s, I gave up caring about having the fastest version of whatever car I owned. I wasted thousands on mods over the years chasing power (many times the results not meeting the claims) and I also realized that track parts usually don't work well on the street and are full of compromise.

I bought my 2011 Cayman base 6MT because I always wanted a Porsche, I didn't want to spend $40K+ on my first Porsche, I wanted to learn how to work on a Porsche, and I wanted to make the car my own. I bought the generation everyone said was the best (987.2) and with the motor where bore scoring is non-existent. It's not fast (managed low 13s@102mph on the Draggy, 1.85 60 foot though!), but everything else about is hoot. It's engaging, visceral, and extremely fun on the street and backroads. It looks so damn good too. Other driver's love it too with all the nods, thumbs up, kids snapping pics, etc. So few know it's just a $35K Porsche.

My OG 2018 M2 DCT is the same way. I decided on the OG (N55) M2 because I had no intentions of tracking the car, I wanted the better sound of the N55, and the N55 is way easier and cheaper to service, and I'd argue, more reliable. The M2C is a beast, but for the extra $10-12K, it wasn't worth it for me. My stock M2 has done 12.4s@113mph which is quicker and fractionally slower than what I got out of my stage 2 M235 6MT (12.6s@114mph). I'm pretty sure my M2 will do 12.2s@115mph once I install the DP from my M2235. That is PLENTY fast for me.

But for me, I'm over driving manual transmission cars. My last one was an 09 GTI. That was a fun little car, but I just don't want to row my own gears anymore.

I know, I know...That sounds sacrilegious, right?
Whatever meets your needs. It's not sacrilege if you enjoy it and it keeps you connected to motoring, that's what enthusiast means. I have fun rowing my boat, but I NEED a manual from an engagement and deterrent against go to jail speeds standpoint, it keeps me grounded and connected to how fast the car is going.

To stay on topic I think at this point the only car that really has my attention is the Emory Motorsport Outlaw builds.

I'm happy with what I have, but we all gotta have something to pine and lust after.

Two of my forever cars. But on the FL5, it is by far and away the best daily I’ve ever had. Is just does everything so well.

It's not even the skip shift, I don't mind that, I rev it to almost 3k in first gear anyways. It's the stop and go, stop and go, go a little then STOP someone turned out into traffic like a moron.

It's fine for fun, or once in a while. But it wouldn't be fun for every single day commuting.

To me, that is about the minimum for entertainment. I find straightline speed excitement at 130+ mph in the quarter. But I am now 60 and think I am reaching the point where I don’t care as much. My first fast car was my 99 M3, which has had 3 superchargers and 4 turbos over the years, along with a fully built motor. It is probably a 140 mph car now; it did 134.5 at an NHRA strip before the fully built motor and with a smaller turbo. My nicely modded 2018 M5 launches much more easily with the AWD and shifts itself so the performance is effortless and easily accessible, but I’d put it at 135 mph and much less exciting than the more raw M3. Had a well modded E90 M3 6MT for a decade that would probably have done 115mph and enjoyed it, but did not really have the power I wanted. If I had kept it, I would have supercharged it.

I do have a 75 2002 that I plan to restore and right now the plan is to just build and turbocharge the M10, use a standalone ECU for fuel injection. It will be my slow car. Even my wife’s 21 Cayenne S has a JB4 piggyback that should push it a little past 110 mph in the quarter — enough to get out of the way.

I can't stop wanting an E60 M5. The only thing stopping me is lack of garage space.

Only the 991+ 911s require removal of the rear bumper cover to replace the air filters. It sounds daunting, but it isn't. We had my friend's bumper cover off his 991 in about 25 minutes doing it the first time.

The engine on my Cayman is very accessible with the top and front covers off. I can have all the interior panels and covers off in about 10 minutes or less. I love being able to sit in the trunk and work directly over the motor. A ton of engine stuff is accessible from under the car as well. I can have the trans out in about 1.5 hours too.

The joy to these cars is how nicely they go back together. Even after 15 years on the road, the panels and parts go back together perfectly and tightly.

As for Porsche SUVs. No freaking way for me. Way too much Audi/VW engineering with the motors. Not very reliable.
I agree completely. In addition, just about every car has some "cringe" job somewhere in it, it's just a matter of time before you run into it. I heard about the 911 air filter replacement but like anything else once you have a system down to process the service it's like anything else.

That said you really do have the right mindset to work on cars of any brand. Something, somewhere, sometime is going to not want to come off or want to be accessed easily. I just did the full brake service on my daughters used Camry and of course someone once upon a time rounded one of the caliper bolts off. It gave me a chuckle.

A 6 speed manual E60 M5 would be awesome. I think I would prefer it to an E39 M5 these days.

I'm leaning strongly toward a Cayman GT4 for my next car, but keep my M2 as my daily. I then I have to justify having 2 barely driven sports cars.

Something has definitely changed with my love of cars over the years. I still enjoy having them, but don't get excited about driving them as much.

My Callaway Carbon Z06 was driven less than 250 mi this year. It's got a cover on it now even though it's sunny & 70 degrees today.

I've just spent about $4k on mods for my M2, I think just out of boredom or simply wanting to change it up.

Damn it! Please don't remind me about E6x!

Have wanted E63 M6 for quite a while... recently figured out that I have an extra parking spot..... and bought a Wrangler instead Because we need it to be able to go through snow in the mountains
It's Rubicon and with manual though... so still can't complain, it's lots of fun to drive But it's not an M6
