You weren't wrong, the 720 handily won the 2 rolling races. It lost the start from zero race due to the Porsche's better launch (likely a 2WD vs. 4WD traction), but it was catching up and would've beaten the Porsche had the race continued past the 1/4 mile mark.

That said, given the Turbo S is 500 lbs heavier and 70hp less than the McLaren, it's amazing the Porsche even made it that close!

10.1 on an unprepped surface that also appears to be a bit damp. That’s insane.

This is probably the most impressive thing to date! The 720S destroys everything it races in the quarter!

Carwow: 911 Turbo S vs 720S

The Porsche absolutely destroyed the 720s in both drag race runs and ran 10.1 (!!).

I think the 720S makes closer too
800 hp. I had a couple of friends who owned 720S’ and when they were breaking and having the engines replaced they were making nearly 700 WHP.
I would guess that not only are they 500 lbs lighter than this turbo S, but making 100 more wheel horsepower.
That being said, the 911 is incredibly impressive. I surely hope Porsche decides to come to market with a 960 or whatever the halo car would be. I think they could handily make a car that was as fast or faster, much more reliable, and a bit less expensive too.

Yeah, 10.1 on a fresh out-the-box car driven on a non prepped surface is pretty nutty. Hell, a splash of octane booster just might get it into the 9's

I picture current 991 Turbo owners watching this vid and immediately speed dialing their P sales rep regarding allocation availability.

I really hate saying but..the back end of McLaren looks like a souped up Lada from that angle. I'm sorry!

Some drag radials And a prepped track and it would absolutely hit 9s. Can’t even imagine what’ll happen when people start modding them

Same here my friend !

I found a video of the first tuned 992 Turbo S in the world..
ECU tune alone, output is now 750-HP !

0-100 km/h in 2.3 sec . => 0-60 mph in 2.2 sec !

Madness !

When you get into this caliber of performance AWD is always going to win the drag race. Hats off to Porsche through as they have perfected launch control with their AWD 911's. That's an amazingly fast time.

RWD 911s can really get the power down. The RS is just a smidge behind the Turbo S in the beginning and then overtakes it just slightly at high speed. Bring on the 992 GT2 RS!

I think you got a while for a GT2 RS. When is the GT3 going to be revealed?

Well of course...what are they, 335 section rear tires these days, or even wider?

Carrera S/4S come with 305 tires in the rear. Not absurdly sized if you ask me.

RWD 911s get really good launches because the engine/trans sits right over the drive wheels. The RS gets sticky cup tires, the 911 turbo does not and gets tires that actually work in the fall weather and rain.

anyway... awd+rear engine is about the best launch you can get these days.

At these power levels you need traction. that's why GTRs and TT Huracans are the fastest things on the street still and usually win all the events at TX2K or shift sector 1/2 mile events. power is nothing without traction to use it.
