COMMENTS

The first full G11 7 Series facelift prototype has just been spied! This V12 M760 features much larger kidney grilles, sleeker headlights, revised tail lights. And for the first time in a production BMW, we see a full digital instrument cluster basically straight out of the BMW 8 Series Concept!

Interesting, thanks for the pictures Jason, great to see where the 7 is going.

It looks like a few other changes from the pictures from what I can see:

-the number of buttons on the middle and bottom rows of the steering wheel are increased, also it looks like it may be a (touch sensitive?) joystick type controller each side as well on steering wheel rather than the traditional scroll wheel. Comparison pics below.

-the cameras for autonomous driving appear to be bigger or increased (3/4?) instead of 2 on front windscreen. Comparison pics at bottom of post.

A pendantic point (sorry!) is that the 760 is a G12, not available in G11 format...great to see the pics though, cheers!

Actually, looks like either 3 cameras or the same two cameras but maybe (do we dare hope?) a dash cam integrated into the centre? (where it looks like a camera lens may be (red arrow pointing at):

Some further points, could just be that this is a test car so a mix of things but can't help notice:

-the temperature sliders below the upper vents are not lit and may therefore no longer be wanted/needed?

-as this is the 760, it should have the air suspension raising button below the surround view camera button (below the EDC buttons beside the gear selector). Is this now in iDrive setting or gone?

-ambient air button not on HVAC control screen, isn't that a standard feature in the 760? (or this newer prototype?)

-what on earth is the diameter 2.7 indicator on the new cockpit display (lower right)...surely not 2.7 mpg?

-do they need a film over the displays to make them work? (hence why the 'don't remove' stickers?

-maybe the all digital cockpit will grow on me but first impression is that I like the current one better! (hard to say what new displays they can produce though besides this one so that could be quite visually stunning if they wanted to make it so.

How do we know this is even a 760? Doesn't have brushed metal rims or side mirrors.

Surprised that the engine shifter isn't like on the M5 or 8 series prototype (crystal) is not present. The 7 series LCI will probably be the 1st BMW to have the black and white 'Bavarian Motor Werk' roundel, flowed by X7, then 8 series.

Why does bmw feel the need to make the kidney grills bigger??? It doesn’t need to be bigger on any of their cars!!!

From what I understand the new roundel was not intended to be used on cars, just in promotional literature along with the spelled out words instead of BMW. I think it was misinterpreted to mean it would be on the actual car

The exhaust pipes are also specific to the 760 (with the vertical splitter in the middle of the exhaust pipe).

No more Hockey Stick!!!

Thanks God!

Looks like the render of the 7 series using the X7 styling cues wasnt too far off, thats a massive grill, but I actually think it looks good on the 7er

If you look at the rear 3/4 photo it appears the hockey stick is still present. The "blade" opening is clearly visible from that angle.

I'm not familiar with the 7 series but can you opt it with rear wheel steering? The photos of the test car sure looks like it has rear wheel steering.

That massive grille is going to kill the look of the car no matter what they do the rest.

It should be "Bayerische Motoren Werke".

BMW Blog reported on 10/21/2017 "One of the interesting moves BMW will be making is switching up the roundel and logo on its higher-end luxury products. So rather than the blue and white roundel that we've come to know, it will instead go old-school, with a black and white roundel and the brand's full name, "Bayerische Motoren Werke" spelled out around it. This design will be present on the cars themselves as well as all marketing for them."

Yes, the breather is still there, but its not as obvious as before, looks more like what you see on the X5, better integrated.

Yes, it is available on the 7. IAS, Integral Active Steering is what they call it. Standard on the 760Li, optional on all others.

Agree about the grill size and look...ugh..
