Android Tablet

Hi,

I have the media package in my 750. I downloaded Netflix on the Android Tablet and I was wondering if there is a way to watch a downloaded movie on the rear screens. I tried mirroring screenings but nothing happened! Thanks

I don't think the command tablet can be used as a media source. You can either download video files onto a USB drive for playback, or use an HDMI device (e.g. Amazon Fire TV, a Miracast dongle, or HDMI-to-lightning cable (which also uses Miracast)) that mirrors onto the screen. Keep in mind that Miracast cannot mirror copyrighted materials (such as Netflix, HBO, etc) due to copyright.

That's too bad that you cannot run a third party app on tablet with the media source! This tablet is useless as it stand now, all you can do is modify some settings...

I remember getting it to work with a customer from Atlanta...
If I remember correctly you need screen mirroring and the tablet while in tablet mode (the mode that acts like a normal tablet)
Must be assigned to the Wifi hotspot within the car.
Once this is done you should be able to screen mirror to the rear seat entertainment screens.
If i remember correctly it was a long while ago.

Thanks, I'll give it a try tomorrow and advise if it worked!

Make sure to actually activate the Wi-fi fully by creating the account for the trial.
Screen mirroring works by being on the same wifi network.

Like i said it SHOULD work it's just been over a year and I only did it 1 time.

wireless mirroring only works with android devices, but again, paid sources such as Netflix or HBO are off the menu.
It doesn't make sense to use the in-car wifi for streaming, due to the limited data allowance.
The tablet in the car is pretty useless other than controlling the car's settings, because it cannot be connected to the internet (using the CELLPHONE's hotspot) and the vehicle's wifi simultaneously.

It would've been nice to be able to play a downloaded movie or show off Netflix! I agree, this tablet is useless, not sure why BMW equipped the car with such tablet when you cannot use it beyond controlling few features in the car. Pretty Stupid...

You can play a movie or video file off an USB drive; you just can't play it using the Netflix/Amazon/Dish app, it has to do with copyright.

You say that yet I've gotten it to do it my guy.
Go to the apps section on the tablet and use it as a normal android tablet.
Connect it to the cars Wifi hotspot,
this allows you to screen mirror on the rear screens.
If I had another car that I had the wifi active I'd happily do a video showing it.
I'm not gonna activate the trial wifi in a new car just for this.
I know for a fact it can be done, but the process I used might be a bit off.
I remember watching youtube videos on the tablet and projecting them onto both of the rear screens.

@MrOhnoez, so I tried what you mentioned below, connected the tablet to the car wifi but for some reason the screen mirroring did not show in the drop menu as per attached image. Please let me know if you have any other ideas, my kids would love it if I can get Netflix to work! Thanks

1. yes, it can be done watching YouTube but not paid apps such as Netflix/Amazon Prime video, etc (at least in the USA);
2. while it is being mirrored, the command tablet loses its functionality to adjust car settings;
3. most people already have a surplus of data on their phones, and probably do not bother to subscribe to the car's in-vehicle wifi data plan

Gents, I'm not trying to run on my cell data movies or tv shows of Netflix. I want to run a downloaded Netflix movies or show which I already did download on the tablet but for some reason I cannot screen mirror the tablet to the car screens in the back! As I mentioned before, all I can do is control music and few other functions...

you simply can't mirror this pad. It's the cheapest and lowest version and is NOT able mirror any content. I've tried and speak from experience. You can only stream or play downloaded content via a streaming device such as a chrome cast but it's a complicated set-up. I've tried it too, it works but you have to go through so many steps, it's just not worth it. BMW uses a cheap pad with limited functionality. Most of their so called Geniuses have no clue either.

It is a cheap pad! I got prompted to update the Android OS, once I updated it the screen mirroring function in the drop menu is no longer there... So even if there was a way to mirror this stupid device and watch a downloaded movie, know you cannot do it anymore. I guess this feature is no longer available in 4.4.2.

your options for video watching include:
1. DVD or BD;
2. video files on USB drive;
3. mirroring using a smart phone (Android phones can mirror wirelessly; or iPhones using a HDMI-to-lightning adapter with Miracast), but not paid services such as Netflix.

Sorry for the late response.
You have to download screen mirroring now.
They removed the built in functionality of android devices, now just download the screen mirroring app and try again.
