Question Have You Guys Tried Purchasing Household Essentials?

So I handle 90% of the grocery shopping in my household. Actual food and toiletries are about the only things I still buy from a store. So i noticed that toilet paper and paper towels were in short supply all this week. Even though I generally keep enough on hand for weeks at a time, I figured I better stock up. But all my local stores are out! Even the bargain store brands are gone. When I turned to my trusty Amazon, they too are out!
So I turned to eBay and grabbed a few hundred rolls while I still can. Including many bulk packs of flushable wipes!
I expect sellers to start price gauging in 3... 2... 1.

I have plenty of both. Only thing I need is a few cases of water and I will get that this weekend. I have been hearing most or all the cold meds are sold out at the stores.

I have 4 cases of water but guess I'll have to grab some more. Guess I'll grab some canned goods while I'm at it... Sgeesh.

i dont really care. as long as i have running water i'll be fine. i got trees outside with leaves if need toilet paper. I'd also have... you know.. running water to clean my ass.

you can go for quite a while without food 30-40 days in most healthy adults.
no water ... you're looking at 3 days.

Toilet paper is the least of your worries - you can use a hose and your left hand if you really need to. Same with water. Unless somehow the virus turns off your city water supply, tap is fine and you can boil it if necessary. I think people are conditioned to panic buy storm essentials.

That said, there’s no harm in bulking up a bit on stable essentials like beans/rice and canned food, but you’re not a prepper if you do. A prepper already had all this stuff stocked up just because and not just when they hear something bad coming this way. In CA, judging by the Costco the past few weeks, if we had a real earthquake, a good portion of the population would have been screwed. No water, no food, no basic essentials. Disasters rarely give you a month’s time heads up to get ready.

Get some freeze dried or shelf stable staples like beans/rice, store large gallon containers of water, have an easily accessible emergency kit with first aid, stove, shelter, etc. on hand at all times. Some camping brands advertise 35 year flavor guarantees for their meal kits!

We've been slowly buying extra for the last month or so, but our stores aren't wiped out like I have read about in bigger areas.

Also I heard that both Amazon and E-bay were flagging accounts with apparent price gouging and suspending them in regards to certain items.

It's crazy, all the stuff folks should actually stock up on like canned and dried goods aren't being touched, but crap wrap and bottled water.

Sheeple.

I stopped at Walgreens on my way home from work yesterday to grab something and happened to walk through the cold medicine aisle... completely bare.

Yep. I went to the store after the gym last night just to get my usual stuff and obviously all soap/cleaning products were gone. Toilet paper and water (what the fuck?), bread (?), and then stuff like Hostess/Little Debbie snacks were wiped out.

Beef jerky, tuna, frozen meats, eggs, etc.....fully stocked.

I honestly fear for society. People really are just unbelievably ignorant

I am waiting till my move to restock my canned good. Don't need more shit to move for no reason. I have a ton of MREs if I am starving, but plenty of meat in the freezer so I am good.

Years ago, I made a mini fire pit out of an ammo can. I can just toss a grate from my grill on top if I run out of propane for that. Walk to the woods & grab some wood to burn.

It's not going to get to this level, folks.
