At 107C message engine overheated message

Hello Friends, this is regarding 2005 745LI, I have recently changed coolant Thermostat, Upper and Lower Coolant sensor and Radiator fan. I keep on getting Engine overheated at 107C. The Water pump is working fine as I can c a steady stream of coolant in coolant reservoir. The coolant is between Min and Max range (no coolant leak).

Upper radiator hose is HOT and lower radiator hose is warm to touch.

I am able to drive for 30 mins continuously and the message keeps on popping and disappears and this cycle continues.

Any help is demystifying this issue is much appreciated.

Thank you.

I would like to add 1 more thing, I have coolant temperature displayed in my car and even after driving for 30 mins, the the thermostat does not open allowing the cooler coolant in(the thermostat and upper/lower coolant sensors are brand new). The temperature hovers around 107C. Any ideas?

Also I have noticed that the radiator Fan does not come on after I get the "Engine has overheated" message. Only after I start the AC, the fan comes on. I can still drive the car with no loss in power or steam issues. Any ideas?

Another observation, when I crank up the heater, the cabin gets pretty warm, so that shows the heater core is ok.

Any radiator fan fuse or relay should I check for possible issues?

I was able to trigger radiator fan at full blast using the BMW ISTA plus software. Is there any other DME or module should I look into to get a better insight into this heating issue?

You might also want to monitor your oil temps.
As for diagnosing, I mean you've changed out the sensors already and thermostat, maybe there's a blockage in the radiator that allows just enough fluid to pass to make it seem like the system is working? Last things to check are really how much flows through the rad and if it flows well, is the water pump actually working properly. If ISTA kicked on the fan that shows the relay is good.

So after clearing the code(2EE0 and 2EEA), I drove for an hour, and no overheat message(this was not the case before, the msg popped up in 15mins). The coolant temp hovered between 105 and 107C. Is this normal?

Yeah, just a tad on the toasty side, mine is usually 102-105 but I've watched it stay at 105 for a while. My oil temps also seem to be in that range but I'm battling warranty for oil leaks atm and my DME is damaged and won't report oil levels. Your temps are fine, especially if you're in a warm climate.

I spoke too soon, after around 100 miles of driving the Engine has overheated message appeared again.

The coolant temperature stays around 107C. Absolutely no sign of overheating (no steam or leaks). Car drives fine(no loss of power or limp mode).

Any thoughts?

And there's nothing crammed in the fins of the rad? That like the last component for you to replace other than the water pump lol

Looks like the DME is unable to send the Fan ON command to the Fan. If I replace the DME, do I need to reprogram it?

You can't just replace the DME, it has to be coded from factory with the VIN because it is linked to the anti-theft system. If you buy a used unit you'll also need to replace the CAS module and your key, and any scans moving forward will read out the VIN that replacement DME came from and not your cars VIN.

Another option is to find a shop that does DME cloning. Basically you buy a used DME and bring/mail your DME and the used one to the shop. They'll then clone your DME data onto the replacement DME and you can then install it in your car without issue as if it was your original DME.

What was the situation before you started replacing parts (coolant Thermostat, Upper and Lower Coolant sensor and Radiator fan). Ie. Did the same problem exist before, or only since you replaced, just thinking you may have a duff new part or a bent connector pin etc.
