Chicago AutoShow

Yesterday I was there. The situation looks pretty depressing. Few automakers that try to convice me and them selves that the EV is the right choice.

I find local cars and coffee meetings much more appealing for the past few years now. There’s lots of cost associated with show like that and manufacturers usually don’t make any money as a result. Fewer and fewer of them are displaying their products. Pointless IMO. Not mentioning the kind of crowd it attracts… used to be cool Saturday/Sunday entertainment.

Years ago I remember looking forward to the NY Auto Show and would usually spend 2 days there with my friends.

In fact my 1994 325i convertible in Samoa Blue was the color they featured at a show and I ordered that color because of seeing it there.

The Chicago auto show has been pretty depressing for at least a decade. Despite that I still go...

This will be the second year I haven’t gone. The last two years are the only years in close to forty years I have not attended an auto show. Before I moved to Chicago I actually used it as an excuse to make a long weekend trip here.

I think the formula needs to be reviewed. I’m not in the marketing and communication business, but as customer I’d like to see something different. Engaging people that are in the social media business, offering a real discounted price on new veicles, proposing a different entertainment for techinical enthusiasts, but also for families or for women. Providing some financial incentives to engage the carmakers and the local dealers to join the exibition, and at the end selling those cars through an auction. They also missed a great opportunity to combine the superbolw event with the carshow.

Yeah back in the day it was a lot of fun - so many vendors and cool concept cars... it's been on a slow decline for a long time now unfortunately.

The concept cars and the beautiful models were the highlight of these shows! 😎

Where the hell was the Cybertruck? I missed that.

Must've been tucked in the back. They used to have it across the entire floor, with the two separate wings. This year it was only half that with one wing only. Somehow even more depressing. And it happened to be the year I brought two people who've never gone before. Excellent.

It was in the car test zone, down to the end. There was a Lucid and a new Model 3 as well. It’s pretty impressive. Some months ago I ordered one, but I have several concerns.

Oh yup I saw that from far but didn't bother checking it out. Kept hearing tires screeching, I guess they were giving people rides. Oh well, don't care for it anyway (so mad I didn't see it ).

The Chicago auto show has gone downhill. I just went yesterday and nothing was exciting. Half the brands are gone or there's just electric crap.

I got 5 tickets for free (from work). If I didn't get tickets for free, I wouldn't have gone. Not paying $100~ for tickets.

Couldn't agree more. At least years ago I thought it was good to take a look at most brands for a new family car, now even that is no longer the case. Stellantis pulled out last minute for cost cutting.
