Illuminated Kidney Grille i7

While the illuminated kidney grille is standard equipment on the i7, in Canada, the option gets deleted if the car comes with the M Sport Shadowline Package. A disappointment when I picked up this beauty last week. Anyone else feels the same way?

same here in switzerland... it drops out of the config when selecting shadowline.

i disagree with a lot of the "designs" that BMW imposes on you. like the colour... i wanted u21, this would cost 23k extra...

it's nice to get a suggestion, but if i want an ugly car in terms of colour/design combination, please let me do it. THEY started it with the wheels

I think this may have changed for model year 2024. I had the illuminated grille on the first G70 (the one that was totaled) and now have M package on the second. While I prefer the black grille, I do miss that very cool illumination.

It really is a shame because it makes the car look very cool. If that actually changed for 2024 model, do you think BMW might be able to retrofit at the dealer level?

All three 2024 i7 models will include the Illuminated Kidney Grill if you purchase the ZPP Premium Package -- and why shouldn't one? ;-)

Only comes in chrome grille for iconic glow. Not sure if there’s always a connector for iconic glow regardless of vehicle options. Will be retrofitting a black one on a car with iconic glow.

The stealthy black shadowline trim beats the pimpmobile light-up grill anytime...

You can always hang some Christmas lights on the grill if you want! ;-)

I've also ordered one with the MSport Plus and I'm quite disappointed, that the IconicGlow isn't available. Would be very interested in your experiences regarding the retrofitting.

Well basically I remove the chrome iconic glow and installed shadow line black grille. The thing is you also need to get the air flaps, the cover over the water nozzle, and the rectangle on the grille as these all change with chrome/shadow line options.
Just had a customer change out all exterior chrome to black. Rear tail lights as well (which are each a control unit and need to be programmed).

Yes, and why I opted out of the M-Sport Pro Package. Most annoyed about not getting painted calipers with regular M-Sport package though.

Still need to figure out chrome delete on lower rear bumper and rear tail lights!

You should get them wrapped or painted. As replacing all 4 tail lights requires programming them as well. Removing the lower rear trims on the bumper requires removing bumper. I’ve done both of these things for a customer wanting black parts instead of chrome.

thanks for the info. Was planning to have my XPEL guy wrap in a gloss black film. I had the center "bar" of the front bumper on my F85 wrapped in this gloss black and it lasted the entire lease without any issue. I figure these rear parts will get lots less wear than the front bumper.

Would anyone know if dealerships will fit the M-Sport Pro pack after delivery? I just ordered a build with the black grill, and to my disappointment, the iconic glow is only available for the chrome trim. I have one week until I can no longer make any changes, and I’d like to retain this feature while having black design elements.

The new M70 has the black grill with illuminated grill. I think it's exclusive for M70.

The M70 comes with the illuminated/chrome grill by default (not the black grill). You would need to order the M Pro Drivers package (ZMQ) for the M70 to get Shadowline trim (which includes the Black grill). However ZMQ is temporarily unavailable in the configurator or as a submittable build option. If you want to confirm the chrome grill is the default, just run any build in the configurator and you can see the M70 will have it.

Unfortunately, ZMQ (with Shadowline Trim and Black Grill) will not be homologated (available/produced) until week 44. If you got an order submitted early enough with ZMQ, you will have a production date sometime week 44 or later. However, BMW recently removed ZMQ from the ordering system (and the online configurator). Anyone wanting ZMQ (like myself), who doesn't already have an order in place with it, has to wait for the option to become available again (hopefully sometime well before week 44)

If you want to see a build with ZMQ, you can check one of my earlier build codes. The configurator will still display the older builds (with ZMQ) but no longer allows you to select that option interactively:

https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-ow...exterior/color

You will even see "M Sport Pro package" listed in the vehicle summary.

...and, no, the black grill is not exclusive to the M70. You can add the "M Drivers Pro" package (with black grill) to the x50 and x60 as well (check the configurator). In fact, ZMQ is still an enabled option for the x50and x60 even though it has been temporarily disabled for the M70...)

...and yes, you can get Blue Painted calipers with ZMQ/Shadowline. You just have to select that sub-option (3M1)!

If you have a reference that the optional Black grill is ALSO Illuminated, I'ld appreciate a link to that info.

When ZMQ becomes available for the M70, it will come with an illuminated black grill from the factory. The black illuminated grill will ONLY be available on the M70 initially. There's a YouTube video on the BMWBLOG channel where the host is doing a walk-around the i7 M70 with the CEO of BMW M. In the video Frank Van Meel (BMW M CEO) confirms that the i7 M70 will have the illuminated black grill that comes with the M-Sport Pro package.

These two pieces of info seem to be contradictory...

ZMQ includes Shadowline. The first quote implies the illuminated grill gets deleted with ZMQ. The second implies ZMQ includes an illuminated grill (albeit a black one).

Is there some nuance I am missing?

Personally, I'm hoping BMW will adopt a lung-shaped grill. Cooler-looking triangular aesthetics!

[Can't you just HEAR the Google Image searches clicking now?] :-)

Based on my M70 order that has ZMQ this is my understanding:

7ML (M Performance Package) adds M sports breaks w/ black calipers, rear spoiler, extended shadow line trim, and M Sports pro content. Note: The kidney grill remains silver and illuminated. The black non-illumated grill from MY23 is no longer an option.

ZMQ (M Sports Professional Package) combined with 7ML (M Performance Package) adds the new black grill that’s now illuminated.

7ML w/ ZMQ was only available for those of us who had early orders/allocation for MY24 i7’s and will be available again around week 44.

Per the dealer ordering guide, ZMQ for the i7 M70 includes ZML (see attached):

(Note that ZMQ is slightly different between x50/60 and M70)

ZMQ (M Sport Professional) Package for the i7 M70 Includes

- 3M3 M Sport Brakes with Black Calipers
or
-3M1 M Sport Brakes with Blue Calipers

- 754 Rear spoiler

- 7M9 Extended Shadowline Trim

- 7ML M Performance package

- 9TB M Sport Pro Contents

Per BMW NA: ZMQ for the I7 M70 will be homologated (enter production) on week 44

Can confirm M70 black grille is illuminated. Very interesting for other people who want to retrofit to black and still want illuminated.
