Car Play

I have a 2015 740 Li.
I'm interested in being able to add Apple Carplay either wired or wireless.
Any options?

I think there is an alternative. You can have CarPlay in your f01, but without touch screen.

I bit the bullet and ordered this:

€ 385,76 16% Off | Joyeauto WIFI Wireless Apple Carplay for BMW CIC 6.5 8.8 10.25 inch 1 3 5 6 7 series X1 X3 X5 X6 2009-2013 Android Auto Car Play
https://a.aliexpress.com/_TyNw9

Will keep you posted on the results.

So as promised an update on my wireless CarPlay install in my '08 F01 740i.

Last week I finally received the Joyeauto wireless CarPlay unit. You can also use it for Android auto, although that's wired I think.

It took nearly 2 months to arrive from China, maybe Corona had something to do with it.

I found their installation video on YouTube. Of course it wasn't as quick as in the video, but got everything installed in about 3 hours, also using the included installation sheet.

Most complicated was routing the mini jack wire to the aux in the center arm rest.

I removed the central vents, nav screen, climate controls, ash tray and gear box surround. I was then able to connect and route all the wires and install the unit itself behind the nav screen.

I installed the mic on the left A pillar, but may reroute it to the left factory mic location later on.

Wireless CarPlay itself works like a breeze. Do make sure to turn on the aux input for sound. I programmed this to the number 8 preset button.

Siri & phone calls work well. The graphics colours are not very crisp on the screen, but I blame that on the 12-year-old display.

So far very happy with it. In retrospect however I probably would have gone for a hifimaxnavi.com unit, so you also get a fresh new screen.

Cheers,
Liam

Hi all.

New to this forum.

I just purchased a 2013 BMW 750i X Drive M Sport and couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Of course one of the very first things - after a thorough indy inspection by the local BMW mechanic - was to add CarPlay and Android Auto.

I was looking into the Bimmertech retrofit but was hesitant on the price.

Luckily I found a solution from Amazon that was MUCH more affordable. The price more than justified any reservations I had from using a Chinese solution.

The end result has been flawless. I retained use of the original mic and the system transitions from Carplay to Reverse Parking Camera and back again seamlessly.

Installation took me 30 minutes and I was able to utilize a space behind the screen for the module. For extra security and quality, I zip tied everything down and also made use of thick felt to cushion the module between the panel and display bracket. The USB and antenna (for Wireless CarPlay) was fed through to the glove box without needing to drill holes.

For this solution all I needed was access to the Harmon audio module. I didn't need to tap into the AUX port in the arm rest.

My first post - I've just bought this system from a company called IceBox Autos in Liverpool, and looking forward to getting it fitted.
