Never mind. I figured it out (post 3).

I was driving home last week and got stuck in traffic. My map no longer shows traffic information, so I had no idea how long the backups were (I was on an Interstate) and if I should take a detour. So I decided that I needed to renew the subscription to get this important information.

This morning I go to renew, and the options are down to one, only. "Connected Package" at only $50/yr. gives me Remote Services, BMW Assist eCall and BMW TeleService. No traffic info, apparently.

Any ideas what happened? It's possible that when I last looked at these options, I still had a little warranty left, and maybe the options diminish if I let it expire before renewing. Or it could just be that BMW has decided not to provide traffic information any more, in an attempt to motivate me to buy a Mercedes.
I just noticed this. Both of my cars have ID6, I wonder if support for ID6 is becoming more limited? I'd renew traffic in a couple of months if available but not optimistic at this point.

Ah, it's their lousy web site that's the problem. I called the Genius line, and she was able to do it for me. "Connected Package Plus" $150

Do you find the traffic info is better than what you might get from Apple Maps? I use Car Play almost exclusively for nav and even though that traffic info is by definition not perfect, it's very helpful.

Isn’t Waze the better nav for traffic info?

I don't have an Apple phone, and I never used Waze because my phone is in my console or in my man purse, never on and distracting me.

I don't know where BMW sources its traffic information from, but I presume that it's someone like Google or Apple who is tracking everyone's phone, constantly, and if they notice that you are traveling on a road, they see how fast you are moving and generate traffic information from there.

Commercial GPS is accurate enough know that they know what lane you're in.
