Anyone got a 7 on order currently?

I've just ordered a G11 730d for delivery in September (according to the dealer) with the current chip shortages and many BMW models having standard equipment removed or options not allowed I wondered if anyone else has one on order and if they have suffered from the same.

My dealer accepted the order and the options and hasn't said anything yet, I will of course check with them but it would be good hear of anyone's recent experience.

I've ordered:

730d M sport
Dravit grey/cognac/black interior/piano trim
Executive drive pro
M sport pro pack
Heated steering wheel
Through load

Quite excited actually as I've wanted an LCI every since it came out when I had a pre face lift 740d xdrive.

We have just opened up our company car ordering again recently, and finding that the chip shortage is adding at least 10 weeks to most manufacturers factory order lead times. There is some physical stock around, but up to the drivers whether they are flexible to spec and colour or not.

On the higher end, low volume cars, allocation is pre determined, so dealers are glad of customer orders and will spec amend a pipeline vehicle prior to it being locked, so that they are not stuck with a dealer spec’d showroom model to shift as a pre-reg. if you have a friendly dealer, you can play the system together and save lots of money.

On the volume side, especially non-German, demand is high and they are feeling the chip shortage to a greater degree. We had one manufacturer bounce an order, as all physical stock is sold, and all 2021 UK allocation marked as sold, so can’t even take an order until late 2021, when they have visibility of 2022 allocation.

Talking to VW earlier today, they are expecting the chip shortage to ease early Q4, but not hearing the same from any others yet.

Thanks Mark, yes I was aware of the chip issues and have seen the delays on certain models and specs in the market place, my own industry is heavily affected as everything we supply has a chip in it or several.

It was more a question to anyone that currently has an order on a 7 or has info as there appears not to be a delay or a rowing back on the 7 series spec unlike the other models.

Hopefully my build slot in September coincides with all the bits making it to the production line, as I'd hate to get nearer the time and have it amended as I'd cancel at that point.

The supply dealer (Berry) have told me today the 7 isn't affected by the chip shortage, which is good news, I had a wobble on the leather and have changed to Ivorywhite/black.

Too long.

My slot is in August for September delivery, I guess the B7 is more of a job than a standard 7.

While waiting for my service to finish i spotted this in the AUC carpark. I never in a million years thought i'd be tempted by a 7. What's it like driving around in London?

You live there, you tell us!

I think there are plenty in central London aren't there along with A8 and S class, I guess you'll need a decent parking space at home.

It was just about manageable in my 640d - only thing is it used to stick out loads in carparks and avoided width restrictions point blank.

I've never had surround view before though i imagine it makes parking & width restriction a breeze in a car this big? I'm pretty sure i can get a family orientated 7 signed off easier then an M car - which what i really wanted before i saw the 7 in the flesh.

Do you guys daily the 7's or switch to something more sporty on weekends etc?

The surround view is very good and does all sorts of funky and helpful things when you're parking, I don't have to cope with width restrictors up north but I guess the surround view will help with them.

I only ever have one car at a time, I went from M3 to 740d xdrive back to another M car then a little golf gti whilst I wait for the new 7 to be built.

The 7 is 5.12 metres long so it'll do the same and stick out of most parking spaces, width is 1.9 metres so not that bad.

I'm also waiting my G11 730d, ordered at the beginning of June. I got allocation for production at the end of August with September delivery, but when I asked last week it was pushed to October. We're trying to put it back for September but I don't have high hopes.

It's my first 7er and I plan to have it as the only ride for some time. Switched from 330xi and 987 Boxster, so I'm really curious for how long I will manage without 'fun car'.

That makes me feel better. Atleast its all over, I thought my SA is lying to me.

Interesting mine was quoted as August build, delivery around the middle of September.

Have you been given the VIN or production number yet? I think you can track the status via the BMW genius chat, I haven't got mine yet, the last coms from the sales man was there will be a update to follow.

I think most car companies, including BMW, are prioritizing their high cost vehicles...e.g. the 7 series.

Yes that's what he said, funnily enough though the lease is cheaper than an M340i/d or 530d.

I asked dealer for order number and I can probably use it to ask on genius chat for updates, didn't try it yet. No VIN as it's not in production.

Not only lease, final price for my 730d was lower than nicely spec'd 530d (both after "contribution"), that was a deciding factor for me to go with 7.

Yeah once you spec them up to the 7 they are more cash/lease/pcp.

The residual value calculations from CAP only apply to a published spec of a vehicle, so any options added to that spec do not normally impact the RV (colour is probably the only exception). We had a driver choose a Passat S and added about £5k of options. When we saw this, we had the dealer move it up to an SE Business model, which already had most of the spec, with less than £600 options, so driver had same spec, and we saved over £90 per month. This was because the RV was then based on SE Business spec.

I always advise my colleagues that if they are adding more than a couple of thousand in options to move up to the next model, as more often than not, the RV benefit offsets the difference.

Thats a part of it, but in my case I was looking at HP (or cash) so no RV there, only full price after 'contribution'. It was still lower for 7 series than 5, which makes this my most unexpected buy so far.

Best we have found so far for a G12 cash purchase is 13.5% dealer discount and £16k manufacturer discount as a retail deal, which is better than our corporate support terms.

The base lease cost on mine is £550 a month (amortising the upfront payment) for G11 730d M sport, when you consider that a lease includes VED and the 7 comes with a 5 year 50,000 mile service pack I think it's a great deal, but I spoilt that by adding 5k worth of extras though...
