Lightbulb This is Essentially the Next 7 Series

This is as close to reality what the upcoming 7 Series will look like.
😳 I just can't...
Based on multiple spy photos and very accurate renderings of previous model releases, I have no reason to doubt the next 7 will be much different from this. And it is VERY disappointing IMO. But hey... If you haven't seen the XM Concept and the design language BMW is heading... 😬

I am quoting my OP because it looks eerily similar (grill is even larger!) to what is now visible as the next 7. Here are actual images prior to the official reveal next month.
It is too polarizing if not beyond IMO.... Now I'm sure it will be better depending on color, options, shadow line, wheels, etc.
The good news for me is that the very specific 2020 that I will eventually grab, will go down in price.

This looks awful. The XM is bad, but this is somehow worse. I just cannot figure why BMW is designing the front ends this way, especially the split headlights, screams bargain basement to me (Nissan and Hyundai do this, it is just not a good look for BMW). Guess my move to Porsche will be complete if this is what they build.

I'm afraid so. I've been closely following this story from many automotive websites, blogs, social media, etc. The camo cars photographed recently, clearly show this front end silhouette. Not to mention, the split headlih design has been all but confirmed and also seen on the next X7.

This is what a certain Market is wanting and apparently BMW is listening. Sadly...

I also call your attention to the next X7. These photos are a camo vehicle and a rendering based on the camoflouge. Looks pretty realistic to me.
Reports are that the 7 will follow this exact styling.

Oh well. This bodes well for eventual purchase of a G12. 😉

This is not.

As someone who seen the G70, I can tell you this render is far enought.

The overall desing language comes close to the XM presented lately, with some changes i.e. the split headlights won't be put on the roof, but in the bumper (main lights goes below the narrow ones). Also the grill will be bigger than you see on the render (in height).

I've seen the non-M version only but it looks like vert futuristic (I was getting Alien vs Predator vibes) and is a good successor to current G11/G12. When I am looking at my G11 now, it already looks dated, especially the side profile.

Also back is more curved now with G70, instead of straight lines you see on G11 (lights, for example). Something like current 8 and 7 series has a kid and you would end up with gene pool from both

Is it just me or does that bonnet/grill/bumper/lights setup look like they are trying to create an old-style Cylon robot???

Maybe they can put the red LED light show across the bonnet for shiggles?

Ha!!! I actually thought Battlestar Galactica also.

Loved that show. This design, not so much.

XM concept has double lights in the bumper though.

G70 has a thick (but long) strip at the top of the bumper (with the new iconic double-ligts), just below the engine hatch (but still in the "body" rather than on a bumper) and then the rest of the light sources reside below, inside the bumper. There is something like 10-15 centimeters of bumper (in the body color) splitting them both. Looks very aggressive and modern and perfectly fits the new grilles, in my opinion.

In grey it looks nice, but it black this will be a killer design IMO. Also can't wait the M-Sport looks and the V8, that is in the end coming (hopefully to all markets).

I think people or (mostly kids) in this case are talking out of their Asses. Clearly, almost every surface of the upcoming G70 is heavily covered in PANELS. You can not make such renderings based on your own guesswork and call them "accurate" or " this is how the G70 will look like". Look at all the pictures and videos available. Everything is covered in panels and while you might work out the headlights or the lower front end part of the fascia, no one can have an accurate rendering by any means at this point.

If this is really the next 7 series, then this is one ugly looking box and BMW will be handing the 7 series market on a silver platter to Mercedes as the new S class look way better than these stupid photos which look quite close to the real thing! I guess it will be time to bail out from the 7 series or maybe completely from BMW after several decades of enjoying the Ultimate Machine...

If it can get screwed up I am sure the current BMW design team will find a way to do it.

I can't see deciding about a car until I see it in person. IMHO it is kind of ridiculous even to react to crap Photoshopped pictures and disguised videos. When the LCI was first officially revealed, I really didn't like the grille, like many others. But it wasn't nearly so bad in person and the grille didn't stop me from getting one when my lease was up. Yes, Mercedes can be very nice (I have had S class in the past) but the MB cockpit ergonomics are inferior to BMWs and I spend more time inside than outside. I don't really care about split headlights as long as they function the way really good headlights should function. Finally S class is fundamentally a car built for the passenger(s) and BMW still centers around the driver and even at my age that counts a lot.

Can’t agree more. My 760 lease was up. While waiting for new BMW next year I ordered an S580. Yes, it’s “nice.” Comfortable seats, comfortable suspension. But it is emotionless. And the ergonomics suck. The iDrive was perfect allowing me to drive the car while quickly moving between navigation, music, apple car play. It was great. Using the touch screen in the S580 forces my eyes off the road. Can’t wait for new 7 series next year. And I agree with you about minutiae like split headlights, grille size, et al. Like who really cares. You drive the car.

LCI got hated on, but for me it's the best 7 I've had, feels so much better than the pre LCI I had. Feels more solidity built and tighter to drive and well just better all round, the new chassis car will up that game once more.

Same here! While most of the talk is about front of the car (and we won't know how exactly does it look until release), I'm much more interested about interior and ergonomics. It's something I'll be looking at 99% of the time and how I can access different features while driving is an important part of the experience. I was eying new S class while my BMW order was delayed multiple times, but I'm not sold on the interior. I do hope new 7 won't be going the same way as Merc.
