Display key

When you order a car with Display key, does it still come with BOTH of the regular keys, or does the Display key replace one of them?

The display key is a third key. At least for me. I got two regular keys and the display key. The display key is not very practical IMO, unless you have remote control parking, but super cool to have.

Mine too! - could it be market/country sensitive?, although would not have thought so.

It can depend on what market you're in. You can see what is offered for your car & market by using one of the online part databases...enter the last 7 digits of your VIN...then go to the BODYWORK diagrams...then scroll down to the key diagrams to see what is offered on your car:

{US Market using a generic G11...#2 & #4 are sets the card key is #7}

Euro Market using a generic G12...#6, #7, #8, & #9 are sets...the card key is #10}

I am on my third right now, had two 2016s and am now in a 2018. I had two come with one display key and one regular key, and another with two regular keys and a display key. The one that had two regular keys, I was told the original buyer ordered an extra, normally in the US market it comes with one regular and one display if ordered with a display.

Not sure about this. Mine had 2 regular and one display plus manual key without special ordering.

It's been changed so dang often...
2016 came with 1 key and the display key for my instance..
then it started coming with 1 key the display key then the blade.
then 2 keys and the blade and display
I've always seen 2 keys and the blade and display now.

Yes it can - my dealer forgot to order mine when I took delivery of the car, so had to order it after delivery and then code to the car.

Do you happen to have any idea what Display Key cost to add? I'm guessing they charged you for it afterward if it wasn't in your original order?

No in the UK market it was standard, but apparently it doesn’t come from the factory with the car and dealers have to order it FOC to handover to the customer.

They didn’t realise and when I asked for it, they had to order - I guess they don’t sell many new 7’s.

However, this will differ by market.

Display Key has been discontinued in the UK as standard equipment. It is now only available if “forced” by another option, ie. remote parking, and will be charged at £315.

They have also removed the BMW logo’s from the standard silver brake callipers.

I think these are effective for March 20 builds onwards.

Not a big issue as the display key is pointless without remote parking. Which is quite useful, mainly for moving the car on the drive when I’m washing the wheels to be honest, but I have used it a handful of times to get the car out of a parking space.
