How many models are going to be blighted by this hideous, disproportionate front grill design ? I'm relieved the current 5 and the new 3 have been spared from this rubbish. I went to see the new x5 in the UK a few weeks ago, literally the only thing preventing me from placing an order for a new m50d is that grill.
Sometimes BMW get things so wrong, like also the headlights of the pre LCI 1 series

Why people complaining about big grills ?
Look at other brands, grill sizes are much bigger than BMW even compare to this LCI 7. Went to a showroom the other day and the new X5 looks fine to me.

Wait...wasn't that Chris Bangle? Didn't that car help to coin the term Bangle Butt? On another note, I like the E65 LCI much better than the original. BMW LCIs in general tend to be a win in my book...I feel like they're skimping out on me when they release brand new models, leaving all the good stuff for the refreshed car |

I don't get the design language of this generation series. The disproportionate mouth opening grills are devouring the sense of elegance that bmw designers have been built up.

I always find it amazing that beauty is subjective but the opinions are unanimous; the grill is too imposing. Reminds me of when Acura put that beak on the TL and ruined the styling.
I think each 7 series was very handsome for its time. Enjoy the pic |

They're both have the same design in their entire lineup. From A class to S class or from A3 to A8.

I happen to like it but that doesn't matter. The marketplace will be the judge. If the marketplace does not accept the new design, the message will be sent. For me, it doesn't matter because if a lot of people shy away, prices will go down.

yikes!
Just a sampling from my fellow car-fans (many who own BMWs) after showing them these posts/pics.
-"It's just the Bangle Bustle moved to the front" -"Oh great, more Edsel aesthetics ” -“About as attractive as a Grouper’s Mouth” -“not functional, not aerodynamic, not attractive at any angle” -“Come on BMW, LEAD DON’T FOLLOW – Audi/Lexus into grill oblivion!” -“I was considering moving from my 5 to a new 7, forget it now!” -“Killing a perfectly wonderful automobile with toothy grill bling, grow up!” -“This styling mistake (along with Lexus/Audi) will go down as the Mullet of car fashion” I personally can’t add a thing to these ;-) |
