Pano Question
Hi 7-series guys, I'm considering buying a 2016+ 740i coming from a 550i. Does every pano roof have the led lounge feature or do some pano roofs not come with it?

It was an option called Sky Lounge S407A
You can go to https://www.mdecoder.com and put in the VIN to see if the car has this option. |

The Sky Lounge option was a $900 package just for the lighting alone, so I'm sure a lot of people just saw that as a feature they could live without for that kind of money.

Yes. Pretty LEDs above you for $900. Lots of better ways to deploy $900.

I don't know guys... the sky lounge combined with the rest of the interior lighting has been a favorite with passengers. If I were to custom order a 7 (or X7) it would definitely have the sky lounge.
I also thought the Bowers & Wilkins was a waste of $4k, but after living with it for 3 weeks now I couldn't go back to the H&K. |

Not a question of pinching pennies to be sure for a car like this. It is a question of priorities. There are several options for the G12s that are oriented towards passengers. All of the rear seat options are an example, and the pano too, since the driver is mostly (hopefully) looking out the windshield. Audio system is for both so if audio is your thing, by all means B&W. I have a tin ear so the B&W would be wasted. I am very more comfortable getting such options as integral active steering and night vision than passenger-oriented goodies as having passengers in the rear is a rarity for me. The last build I did for a 2020 (my lease is up in the Fall) was between 115,000 and 120,000. If I wanted to pinch pennies, this is not the car I'd buy. I also order rather than buy off the lot, so I am getting exactly what I want. Spending that much money, I think you should get exactly what you want, from color(s) to options. Notice I said "want" and not "need". That was deliberate and forms part of the fun.

Anyone know if you can upgrade 402 pano to 407 pano sky lounge? I'd like to retrofit mine. I found the parts for about $2,500. I figure some coding would also be required.

It looks very nice (to the passengers) but MAY be worth $900 upgrade, but $2500 is definitely over the top, unless you're planning to use your car as an uber limo.

It's not necessary but if you don't mind spending for it, go ahead. I, personally, don't need it but the car I bought had it.

I ended up getting a 2016 740i Msport with pano lounge. I think it compliments the car nicely with the ambient lighting.
It's a great car but as others have mentioned- much more floaty than expected. I needed extra rear seat legroom though and the 7 delivers with that. In black and with the Msport package, I think the exterior design does a good job at balancing looking sporty, aggressive, and masculine but at the same time executive. I like the Mercedes S-class too but it's a little geriatric for me right now. |
