Performance Data of the 2017 BMW M760i

After having the car for 1.5 years and over 43k miles (the car came with 27k miles), I went to the drag strip yesterday. Since the real-world data for our cars was so limited, I thought this could be fun. In the end, I got 5 runs and record the first run on draggy (it was also the best one). Here are some results I got:

1. 0~60: 3.56, 1/4: 11.62@121.61
2. 1/4: 11.75@119.86
3. 1/4: 11.64@120.91
4. 1/4: 11.92@119.88
5. 1/4: 11.877@120.84

My data varies because the starter system (aka. Christmas tree) on the drag strip was complex for our novice drivers to figure out (each side's lighting was not in sync), especially with somebody racing with you. Sometimes I was still focused on the lighting while the other guy had already launched. So I immediately released the brake and launched together, which didn't build enough boost for the car.

However, for a five year old stock car, the performance is astonishing. Although I am still far away from what CarWow did in their videos (1/4: 11.3), I can still beat most cars on the drag strip (beated a 2019 Mustang 5.0 with intake and drag radials without a hassle). Besides, the M760i can only launch in 2nd gear, which limited its potential. The weather yesterday was also not perfect (crazy head wind!!!).

Overall, I am happy with the result and people were amazed by our big boat. They never expected a stock big luxury car can beat some modify sport cars.

Some Info about my car:
2017 with 43k miles, replaced air filter 5 months ago, PS4S in the front and PSS in the rear. Had 3/4 tank of gas from Shell during the race.

Very good, must have been a lot of fun.

I think the 2nd gear starts are because there's so much torque that the slight decrease in acceleration for perhaps the first 20-30 mph is less than the time you'd give up by it having to do the 1-2 upshift. Does it refuse to do launch control if you manually shift to 1st and try it? I haven't tried that myself either.

On a previous thread, it was said that a first gear launch just smokes the front tyres and is slower. Not that I’ve ever tried it.

Pretty cool stuff, always like seeing the real-world comparisons. Thanks for posting...it's on my long list of things to do.
