Atlantic Canada in for it...
Hurricane Fiona is headed for Atlantic Canada -- here's hoping all our Canadian members stay safe!

The top system went over us w/o fanfare last night but what comes next from the South is a little more worrisome.
We closed the clinic yesterday afternoon to allow the staff to get ready and secure anything that is not bolted down. I bought storm chips so I'm okay. https://www.suitcaseandheels.com/storm-chips/ Last edited by Lady Jane; 09-23-2022 at 04:21 PM.. Reason: Added link for Storm Chips. |

And Tropical Depression Nine is slated to hit central Florida as a major hurricane on Wednesday. Let's hope this is more hype than reality.

I hope so as according to that chart it's heading directly for my parents' home. Good thing they're up here for now but it's a new place they just finished setting up a month ago.

Fiona is right on top. Lots of wind but no power outage.

My wife is just off the phone with our middle one, he lives in Darmouth/Halifax. Power has been out all night. He's in the military and suspects he's getting called out to assist. He just moved into his first house at the beginning of the month, so he's pretty worried about it being damaged. So far so good.

That's the key! Keep the lights on!
(On my rural property, if the power goes out, so does the well pump and thus the water.)

Sure as shit it looks to be moving further and further west. Doesn't appear to be a major threat to central Florida now.

My building actually didn't lose power all throughout the storm, on the power outage map, it was in the middle of all the outages, and my area was good somehow lol But the damage is extensive all throughout Halifax and Cape Breton got the worst of it, it's gonna be a month or two to fix the infrastructure. |

Any updates on our Candian friends? Power?
Meanwhile, our Florida friends have trouble brewing... but at least they are more experienced with storms.

Our area was spared the worst considering the devastation only a few kilometers away. We didn't lose power. Now we have nice sunshine. I'll be cleaning the yard today of all the dead branches.

Just got a call from my best friend in Halifax. She still doesn't have any power but fortunately her neighborhood was spared from any wind damage.

Ian is looking pretty nasty, especially for storm surge in and around Tampa bay. High tides will be very high, surge on top of that is going to flood a lot of homes. Still some uncertainty about the path of the storm, speed (and thus intensity) but no matter how you slice it, it will be bad.
We are on the east coast of FL, north of Daytona. Brought the outdoor furniture, etc in today, have all the supplies we need to ride it out (no generator, so we are ready for some hot electric-free days). It has been a long time since I’ve been in a hurricane, this is my first ride in this location, so it will be an interesting experience. Should be CAT1 here, or if we’re lucky TS. But there are still models showing it could be worse, and the wind pattern will push water over our high tides as well. |
