G12 740LeX brake upgrade

I am considering upgrading from the standard brakes, 348X36/345X24. To the m-sport brakes, 395X36(red),374X36(blue)/370X24, either the red set with slotted disks or the blue set with the non-slotted disks.

Anyone know the difficulty of the retrofit, and what needs to be done? Any arguments for the blue kit vs the red kit?

For reference , this is the red kit:

This is the blue kit:

Those two kits aren't the same. Red is larger and has more pistons on the rear. It also comes with all hw you need including dust shields. Obviously more expensive. Both should be direct bolt-on.

Also the rotors on the red are cross-drilled, while blue only has blank rotors.

The ebay link was just for reference. Isn’t there any coding needed for the abs and traction system to work properly?

Not needed but maybe recommended. Different coding for larger brakes, but that doesn't mean it won't work without coding.

I dont see why there would be any coding involved. Loss of traction and wheel lockup is measured via reluctor ring in wheel bearing assembly. This will not change regardless of brake size.

I was told by the dealer that they might have to do some coding, but their systems were down so they couldn't check. That's why I am asking here. Haven't gotten around to take a trip there to ask about the programing part.

Did some searching and found this thread, https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1879542, might need to code.

I think it was discussed on here at some point re: coding bigger brakes.

Also in bimmerworld listing it says:

"BMW recommends having the brake/DSC module re-coded to match these bigger brakes. This can be done at the BMW dealer."

I mean I just dont see what is there to code regarding the bigger brakes. Brakes have wide range of braking performance depending on temperature, discs and pad combination, level of moisture and so on. That is why wheel speed sensors are there to monitor lockups and adjust ABS regulation range dynamically. You can't have just one set point of operation, regardless of brake size.

If I have time in coming days I will hook up ISTA to my car and see if there are some brake upgrade conversion for this. If yes, I'll calculate a measures plan and see what exactly is there in action list. I wouldn't be surprised if all that it involves is vehicle order alignment.

Then again, I could be totally wrong and BMW has some ingenious software for their brakes.

make sure your current wheels will fit those bigger calipers & rotors.

usually when choosing m sport brakes you need to change wheels on the online builder.

I think it's time for me to post an update.

Apparently, 3rd party shops or myself are not "allowed" by BMW to mount the bigger brake kit. Which means I can't get valid TÜV papers that I can use at the norwegian dmv.
