Ceramic Brake Pads

Anyone running ceramic pads on their G11? I have always ran Akebono pads on all my BMW's but don't see them listed for my 2017 Alpina B7. Has anyone found Akebono pads that will work or another brand? The BMW pads dust so bad. Really want to keep the Alpina wheels clean.

I am finding the brake dust not so bad on my '20 G12. The same BTW is true for a '19 G01 X3. On older BMWs that I have had, brake dust was much worse. I surmise that they changed the pad composition some time ago. But I also had them ceramic coat the wheels when I had the 7 done. That makes keeping the wheels clean very much easier.

I removed all 4 of my 21" Alpina Wheels today. I cleaned the barrels and all the spokes really good and applied wheel wax to keep them in good shape. Love these wheels but they are the hardest wheels to clean. I decided I had to find some ceramic brake pads to minimize the dust. Usually the first mod I do on any BMW I buy is to install Akebono Ceramic brake pads. These really make a huge difference in keeping the wheels clean.

I spent a few hours on the web and finally found a set of front and rear ceramic pads for the B7. Akebono makes the rear but not the fronts. I found a set of Centric Premium Ceramic Pads for the front and rear. The front pad part number is: 301.18680 and the rear part number is: 301.14690. I am going to try them out and I will report back. My car only has 17k miles on it but I can't stand dirty wheels and these wheels will take a ton of my time cleaning.

Keep us updated. The break dust is unreal and I have similar wheels. Hard as fuck to clean.

Not expensive at all. I paid $125 for all pads and both sensors.

Yeah, but don't expect a lot of change from £600 for a set of discs! 😂

I think he means, don't expect the brake discs to be cheap.

I mean the brake discs are expensive. As an example. And that's with discount! It would be £1500 otherwise!

I ordered the Centric Premium Ceramic pads but they are backordered. After looking at reviews, I was afraid to put such a cheap pad on the B7. I decided the EBC Redstuff brake pads looked like a solution but they are not shown as working for the B7. With some help on brake pad specs and sizing from BuyBrakes.com, we have decided that the M760 Front pads should work and the 750 rear pads should work. I have these ordered now and will report back. They are supposed to reduce dust by 80% and stopping distance by 20%. Here are the part numbers I went with. They were $231 for both sets which I didn't think was bad.

Front - DP32304C

Rear - DP32089C

What would be the best stopping power upgraded pad for a 750? Mine were just replaced with facory pads but with my power upgrades I'm finding it much harder to stop effectively

I am making the change mainly because of dusting of OEM pads being so horrible. EBC advertises the red stuff pads as stopping 20-25% shorter though. They make yellow stuff track pads which may stop quicker too.

I installed the EBC Redstuff ceramic brakes today on the front of my Alpina B7. The brakes are for the M760 but are exactly the same size as the OEM Brembo pads. I stopped on the rear pad install for now as I have to figure out what software will retract the rear brake piston. The brakes on the G series are much different than the previous E and F series vehicles. It took me a bit to figure out. I think the red pads with the blue calipers tie the alpina badges in really well. The service at BuyBrakes.com was great. They helped with the sizing and FSMI numbers as nothing was listed for the Alpina in ceramic. These are supposed to be 25% better stopping and 80% less dust.

I looked on website and don't see this as a feature on G11/G12. Do you have the bimmerlink with adapter and it comes up as a feature for you?

Yes. I use a OBDLINK MX+ or ENET and it shows up for both.

This is from the BimmerLink app.

Not BimmerCode.

Been trying to find some ceramic pads for the longest time. Already had to send back 3 sets of pads and rotors.
Seen your post and ordered the same ones for my 2016 740i with M brakes. Just arrived today, did you put in your rear pads yet?

Going to try this weekend. I bought the bimmerlink app and a Ethernet to lightening cable but it would not connect to retract the parking brake. I bought the MX+ adapter and hopefully it will connect to the car.

Did you get the app to connect at all using the E-Net cable? Just curious as to wether you could access other functions and it was just the service mode that didn't work.

Never would connect. I hit the start button 3 times to enter diagnostic mode also. I read of other people having issue with enet cable.
