USB issue with Iphone
iDrive 7 running the march 2022 update (I think it ends in 2022.52 or 53)
iPhone running ios 16.0, another running 16.0.2 Has anyone else noticed that iDrive has started to ignore phones plugged in via USB? If I plug either phone running ios16.x into the USB ports iDrive drops that phone from bluetooth and pretends like the phone isn't there at all (even though it is charging). No music, no phone calls, nothing. If I then reboot the phone and immediately plug it in to any USB port directly after the reboot, iDrive sees it and lets you play media from the phone. Everything works fine until you happen to unplug the phone. When you come back to the ar later and plug in, no phone again and you have to reboot the phone afresh. The reason I think it may be something in the latest iDrive 7 update is that my other phone that I keep at IOS14 for playing music in cars that I don't want to pair my main phone to (rentals etc) that also used to work fine... I tested it in the car... it now ALSO must be rebooted every time I bring it to the car. It is getting quite annoying.... grrrrr ![]() |

Did you try with a different usb cable? They’re not all alike esp type c cables.

Several. At any time there are three in the car (one for my phone, one for the wife's and one for the young sprat's ipad in the back... have tried all three plus the spare one I keep in my work bag). Is definitely a problem with the software update rather than the hardware

In the end I found it became 'more reliable' if I completely unpaired my iPhone from bluetooth on the car... at this point plugging in works 'most of the time' and only about once a week do I end up with the phone plugged in and charging with no connection to the headunit for music.
Sure wish BMW would get their sh%t into gear and fix their crappy implementation of apple/bluetooth connectivity |
